Love The Fish
I know this should probably be in another forum but I wanted to hear from the hardcore fish people. Please share your experiece with fish from NY aquatics.

Brett, I've gotten quite a few fish from Mike @ NYAquatics. They are packaged very well and always arrive in great shape. Great customer service and Mike is always very helpful and friendly.

Glad to hear it Brad. I talked to Mike a couple times through E-mail and he has been really cool so far.

I haven't ordered from them but I have also spoken with him a few times and he always answers my questions. He's very open about things and I think that goes a long ways.

I'll definitely be going through him for some borbonious anthias this winter if he gets some in!

Let us know if you got that route.

Im in no way bashing NYA but it seems that most if not all the fish Ive personally received are sick. Ive gotten 4 angels,(only shipped 3) and only have 1 angel left. I have also lost all 4 anthias and 1 wrasse that was a replacment for a lost item. The thing that bothers me about this particular retailer is that you cannot get your money back, only store credit(I understand they arent as big as LADD ) but IF YOU SPEND YOUR CREDIT ON A FISH AND IT DIES, YOU ARE NOT COVERED AND GET NO GUARANTEE. In other words if your fish comes dead, or dies within a day, you get screwed. I wish this was not their policy because Id love to do business with them in the future but am very skeptical of their business practices. I have checked , BZA, LADD and PIA and didnt see any similar "policy". It just seems like a shady way to do business and in this business if you cant stand behind your product then you have nothing.

I received a 25 inch zebra moray that was gorgeous. It was packaged great and still doing very very well. I love nyaquatics and would deffinatly order there again

Mike seems like a great guy, but I have had mixed success with the fish that were sent. I know he recently opened up a larger retail store; I believe he used to be based out of his home. I have not ordered from the new store, so quality and shipping practices may have improved. One of the first fish I ordered was a Achille's tang that was DOA in frigid water. At that time Michael reimbursed me my money, no store credit. The second fish I got was a 4" Chrysurus Angel that came in with velvet, but I was able to get rid of it in QT and it thrived in my FOWLR. It was also shipped in 2 gallons of water, but the bag was leaking and the fish had just enough water to keep itself submerged. The last fish I ordered, about a year or so ago, was a Declevis Butterfly. It came in with what appeared to be a bacterial infection. I tried to QT and treat it but it lasted about a week or so. That one hurt because I was out $250 + shipping costs. Most of the feedback I had read was that if you were local, the prices were hard to beat.

i'll buy again in a heart beat if its a fish i like. i have currently have a chrysurus and passer angel from him. had a beautiful 6-7" blueline angel for a couple of months, but that died in an oodinium outbreak(probably caused by the one fish i didnt QT) in my DT.

all my fish ate within that day or the next day. he'll tell you straight up what the fish is eating and how long he had the fish. which was always spot on IME.

I love LA/DD, but ask LA/DD, and they always respond with something really general..."we feed all our angels such and such"

all my fish was sent with very large amounts of water. once i had a fed-ex screw up(took 40+hrs to deliver), and the 6-7" blueline and passer made it fine and was eating right away.

Butterfly fish are very sensitive to shipping IME.

all I know is the wrasse that died was received the day before he shipped it(that is what he told me)and I was told it was healthy and eating, none of which was the case, same thing with the male wanatanabei, it was shipped with holes in its caudal fin and bacterial infection that did not clear up. I was also told it was eating like a pig, which was not the case.

I haven't had great luck with their livestock, but their prices are on the lower side and they do get some fish that are on the more rare side. They also have a decent guarantee policy.

hey Brett you can post it up on the the LIRA and NYreef club forums and on Manhattanreefs.com and get some opinions from people who have actually been there it may help as well. I myself haven't been there in a few years only because it's a bit of a hike for me from Long Island to Westchester County, upstate NY with tolls, traffic etc...when there are shops closer here on the Island just as good.

Im not loving the reviews (well, most of them). I got a pic today from NY aquatics that was suposed to be a Chelmon muelleri but doesn't look like one at all. I dont know but I think Im gonna go another route with this.
