Fish going blind...

1st tank

Hi,

I have 2 blue green chromis that I have had for over a year. Two weeks I noticed that one of them was acting strange. He was off in a corner by himself and when he would swim, he would keep his fin on the side of the tank. It was then that I realized that he was blind. About a week later the other one started acting the same. Both of them went blind. I moved them into a hospital tank.

Has anyone ever heard of any disease that will make fish go blind? They look normal. They don't have any spots, or marks or any signs of disease that I can see. Thier eyes look fine to me.

They are still eating or at least trying to eat. They are in a 9 gal aquamedic tank, like a nanocube, right now. So I turn off the pump to feed. They can smell the food and are trying to eat.

I took them out of my 55 gal tank. There are 3 fish still in that tank and they don't seem to be going blind.

I hope I can find some way to cure them.

I have been adding Kent Marine Zoe, Garlic guard, and cyclopeze to frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, and ocean nutrition formula 2 pellets. I mix up a batch at a time and freeze it in a ziplock bag on a cookie sheet. After it is frozen again, I chop it into small chunks for feeding.

I was putting selcon in the mix but I ran out. What is a good source of Vitamin A for fish?

Thanks for your help.

Hmm
You might have a better diet than most! Zoe has Vitamin A, plus the pellets should be retaining it long enough for the fish to utilize it.
We might have to go back to the drawing board.

Are you sure they don't have flukes on their eyes and their vision isn't just blurred because of them? They are really difficult to see since they are usually clear.

No cloudiness of the lens. Their eyes look normal.

I don't see anything on the eyes and the other fish are not having any problems. This is just too weird.

The chromis that has been blind longer is adapting fairly well to being blind in the hospital tank. He is actually eating pretty good now. The other chromis hasn't caught on yet, but I think he will. I guess they will live in the hospital tank from now on.
