found it. regal angelfish. one of my favorites but apparently they are hard for beginners. any tips to keeping one?

Mainly look to see if they are reef safe if you are going to have corals im not sure about this fish but I have heard that some angels like to nip on or munch on some corals....

They are not very reef safe. Sometimes people get them eating by feeding them zoas.

There is a huge thread in the reef fish forum, I believe. If you're serious about successfully keeping one I'd recommend reading it.

now that I picked up that 300 gallon I'm looking into larger fish and most of the ones I want aren't really reef safe so I will probably do a FO tank now. I might try to grow some coral under the display tank at some point

I agree large tanks like that if 8 ft long are best for fish only. Cost to maintain goes way down with fish only too

Hey you could always do soft corals they are easy and do not require a lot of attention or money and can fill in your tank nice....that's the route I would go soft corals and fish
