i have a 5 gallon refuge but will have a 11 once my new sump is built, i was wondering if it is ok to put a small clown in the refuge. I am going to put egg crate up so it can not wash over the wall some how into the re turn section. I just have about 2 inches of sand and some macro in there, and was going to put a few little rocks for shelter for the clown. I have baby stars and snails in there and alot of pods, and i think a few birstle worms or things that look like it will that be ok with it in there, and will he eat all my pods before the get into the main tank lol.

thanks, this might be a non advance question sorry.

Wont be a refuge if you have a fish in there, will just be another tank. The reason for having a refuge is to allow pods etc to grow free of predation so that they can then work there way into your main display. If your not worried about providing the extra live food supply to your display then there's no reason you can't put the clown in there.

IMO I doubt a clown will have much impact on pod populations. your experience may vary.

I had a pair of clowns in a 20g tank with nothing but a 1" sandbed and 1 piece of liverock.

After a few months the tank was teeming with pods and worms of many different types. I dont think the clowns had any negative effect.

It seems from my experience that clowns usually only go after food that's in the water column so they shouldn't do much of anything to your pod population.
