Fish List (793 fish)

Isn't this a little redundant, we can already pick up a copy of michaels book and find a valuable list w/information on each species, or go to one of the larger more expensive fish atlas that are out there. you can also put any fish in a fish tank, just a matter of how long they live.

Both commonly sold as freshwater, but are only freshwater in young stages and move to full marine when older, and need full marine to thrive. There are many other less commonly kept fish like this that can be really hardy in tanks when properly acclimated over weeks to months depending on size.

why !!!!!!!!!!

Because he's from VERMONT! It was either this or count the different types of cows out his front window. He looked out and counted 2. Black with white markings and brown with white markings.

(I'm from NY so I have to get a VT joke in there if I can!) :fish1:

Gotta love the Green Mountain State. I spent most of my weekends as a kid in Ticonderoga and our only t.v. channel came out of Bennington. VT is a beautiful place, as long as you have a full tank of gas. Cus there isn't much in between...it has the best maple candy I've ever had too.

And now onto corals! Seriously, i've been looking for a coral photo ID guide forever! www.coralidea.com started on something a while back, but it never really expanded into something really useful.

Think before you post people. You have a young reefer here who is contributing to this community. We need more ambitious young men like this in the hobby.

Thanks,
I'll keep posting each family of fish I complete. I'm working on the angels now.

And yes we do have a bunch of maple products with no added sugar made here in vermont, such as maple candy, maple syrup, maple icecream, maple cookies, exc. If you ever come to vermont with a sweet tooth during the end of summer, come to the fair in burlington, that is where we have all our maple products and cheese.

You can say that again about the cheese! I live in Florida and still get my hands on Vermont cheese...Cabot. Extra sharp on some Trisquits...yummy! lol I'm a huge Cabot Horseradish Cheese fan...but can't find it in FL.:mad::thumbdown

P.S. Champ is not a myth. :fish2:

Sorry for such the long delay:(. My cumputer got infected with a really big virus so we had to go out and buy a new one, so I lost my old list. After that we went on a small trip to Atlanta Georgia to see the aquarium. Anyway, does anyone know how to post a table from a Microsoft word document on RC? I have both Dwarf and Large Angelfish done, They include the scientific name, common name, how reef safe, how aggressive, Care level, Diet, Minimum size tank, and size. Sorry no pics.

Thanks:wave:

just names ? what's the point ? lol

if I discover a new fish, I could look this over to not choose a name already taken, that's all I can think of lol

now if you could add a pic beside each name, so ppl can ID what fish they have or want then u got a nice thread going.

sorry but info according to whom ?

your experience ? what can be found on the net ?

I've been looking at websites all across the net for information on some of these fish, I then will go to my local and very small fish club to get some personal opions on some of the species.

Way to do some studying. In the long run, this may end up helping you more than anyone elese but I am sure some people will get use out of it. Plus at the end you will have all sorts of fish knowledge.

And to all those opposed, they don't understand what you are doing because they have probalbe never done anything for anyone but themselves before.

chris, before u go on, how will this help a newb ? or me ?

go through the list and find the fish with the coolest name ? nope !

so before u go on about this, u need to understand that all info are available to everyone through the net, what helps ppl is someone to ORGANIZE these data ! wht does that mean ? it means ppl who think outside the box like google end up making money.,

Grandreef 2, if you like to make this a helpfull thread, or info, u need some sorting info, perhaps a small software ( I can help u with the code) lets make a software, where u can choose ure tank size and it will tell u what fish will fit in it ! u enter ure tank size and tells u different combination of fishes ! those are usefull info, just the name, has no use, cause anyone can go on google and search "yellow tang" and read as much as they want, we both know there are just too many info out there :)

I hope u get what I mean, a cluster of info is not something that we cant find, its not 100 years ago anymore, we all have access to the same info you have access to, u can bring on the winner if u sorted those info for others, or u provided more info :)

hope this was not taken in the wrong contents :)

I think Grandreefs is doing this for his own personal edification as much as anything.

I think it is a worthy effort and I salute you. Your enthusiasm for this hobby is refreshing for a kid your age.

What now is just a bunch of names for fish that can be kept in an Aquarium could possibly turn out to be a highly detailed list of what fish including latin name, are reef safe, non reef safe, easy to keep, hard to keep, what fish are compatable with each other ETC. I applaud the OP for makng this list if nothing more than for himself. He reallly has the makings of a great new and updated book of fish that we should try to keep, Will there be exceptions as to whats reef safe or non reef safe YES. As a general guide though this will turn out to be really great info for ppl researching new fish for the "lil piece of the oceon"

i've been looking for a fish database to get an idea what are good starter fish for my 35 gallon long tank........ there is none to be found on this site, so if you can build from your list and get a real database going... then to me, your a saint!!

follow this link, it's in Dutch, but you get the general idea of what a great help a database could be to EVERYONE!!

please don't give up

I hope you dont mind me asking but now I need reefers who have experience in the cold water aquarium trade. The only cold water species I have listed is the Urobatis halleri, Lythrypnus zebra and Lythrypnus dalli. So if you know anyone who has a unique fish that thrives in water below 72 degrees Fahrenheit please let me know A.S.A.P

:fun4:Thanks:fun4:
