Fish my tang won't bully

I need to add some fish to my 75g reef. Unfortunately, I put a Kole tang in first, and he is looking rather confident with the tank being his sole domain.

I need to add some fish, primarily to provide poop for my corals. I'm thinking of a mandarin, as I have many pods and no competitors, but I'd like to add more fish.

Can anyone suggest some fish that can hold their own against the tang, or at least be more resistant to bullying? Would shoaling fish be a better bet, such as cardinals or chromis? How about two or three anthias?

Just need some ideas, please! :)

I would think anything from the damsel side of the family (damsels, chromis, clowns), as well as dottybacks should be able to hold their own.

Thanks for those suggestions! The chromis would probably be the only damselfish I'd consider. I didn't realize they could be tough, though.

Do you already have a clown? My clarkii clown nearly ran my convict tang out of the tank just for having stripes. The convict was living in the tank for 4-5 months before i added a same size clark. The clown was chasing him across the tank in less than 30 minutes from hitting the water. My cinnamon likes to beat on my hand whenever i'm messing with corals. I swear clowns are some of the meanest.

No, no clowns. Just the Kole tang. I held off on getting any fish for a while, was told my corals could use some fish poop, and bought a pooper.

If I had an anemone, I'd consider clowns, but I don't want to risk one of those.

Great white shark wouldn't get bullied by a tang, don't know how well it would do in a 75 gallon.

Productive...

A nice wrasse will work. Sixline's are nice looking and can hold their own. Anthias would be nice. Get a small group.

My six line does fine with my tang. And you don't have to have an anemone for a clown. They'll host in pulsing xenia, flowerpot coral, frogspawn

I've always considered a sixline, but that would rule out a mandarin (from ORA), which I think my tank would support. Anthias I would absolutely love to have - I've been hoping that if I add 2 or three at once, the tang won't know where to start! :) Biological filter might be a concern, in that case, though.

How about 3 or 4 zebra dartfish? they stick together and have really nice color

I will look those up!

So no to the shark?:lol2:

If you deliver the fish, and a tank big enough, I might reconsider, lol!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! :)

I'd absolutely love to have a flame angel again, but I'm not sure I want to risk the picking. I looked up the strawberry dotty - very pretty! Thanks!

The dotty was my 2nd fish after the hippo tang and it's been a great addition. Not shy one bit and the bright color is real nice. Pretty inexpensive fish as well.

I like it, but I also liked (and just ordered one of) this:

Not quite as inexpensive, but not too bad. It's listed as semi-aggressive, as I guess all pseudochromis are. I think it might stand up to a bully - we'll see!

Well, I was cruising around on Divers Den this afternoon and saw the fish. I see it listed as a pseudochromis that is semi-aggressive, and a little over 3". I had never seen one listed before (although I now know it has been), and I thought it was beautiful. Assuming someone else would likely snatch it, I bought it right away.

Now I can find almost no specific information on the spotfin pseudochromis (Manonichthys polynemus). Good way to buy a fish! Well, it'll go into QT for a while, anyway, during which time I'll try to find out if it is likely to try to kick my tangs behind. If I learn such is the case, I'll look for another home for it. At least my tang is fat.

are you introducing your fish with an acclimation box? it may help. Also is there a way of removing your tang temporarily, than adding some fish and putting it back at a later date.

Sorry I missed this post...

No, I don't use an acclimation box. I may someday, if I can find one big enough. I don't like the way fish bang around in them when they first get plopped in.

The fish (above) that I ordered arrived yesterday, and went into QT. It seems fine, although it went into the pvc already and I can't see it. At least I think it did - I looked all around the stand thoroughly, and no fish on the floor. I will fatten it up and make sure it is eating several types of food, and then put it in the DT after a few weeks of observation. I have no way of removing the tang, and nowhere to really put it, if I did.

I want to get a sixlne wrasse, as well. I don't really see them on Divers Den, but I'm wondering if I should have bought two fish at once to introduce at the same time, particularly since the pseudochromis and the sixline are both known to be a bit aggressive.
