Fish needs a home!!

The Holston and the French Broad join creating what is known as 3 rivers about 2 miles up stream from South Knoxville bridge. If you run up the French Broad (to the right running upstream) just after you pass under John Sevier high way you will come to some shoals. Best Smallmouth fishing around!! Topwater early and small tubes as the sun comes up. I have enjoyed many a 20+ day of Smallmouth and Kentucky's. Some over 5lbs.

This is the next place I'd like to try... :) I haven't fished the Holston yet... Where do you put in??? Or are you fishing off shore or wading???

Don~ I'm taking Chris up on the Clinch next week sometime... Hopefully Sunday I'll be able to scout it out with Ashley... :D

There is actually a launch where the 3 rivers join. It is private launch and the man charges 2.50 to launch. If you launch there you have your chose on which river you want to fish. You will be standing looking out on all 3 rivers joining. It really is a neat site! This launch is located off Asbury road next to forks of the river industrial park. Another option is the launch under South Knoxville bridge this is a free public launch but a few miles from the good fishing. The hot bait is a white or pearl Zoom Fluke fished weightless twitched in the riffles, very exciting way to fish.

Mark, you aren't by chance Mark Caldwell are you? I'm going fishing tomorrow and I have marksautos dot com book marked from years ago when I was an avid fisherman.

Top water sm mouth! That sits close to broiled lobster cooked the same day as it was caught - on my top 10 favorite things.

Randy, ok, take Chris before you take me (after you promised to take me months ago) ;). But you gotta take me on the Holston trip! I have 2 wks vacation to kill in the next 2 months so I guess I can take a Friday off.

I may be headed to Miami in the next couple months for my yearly fishing trip. Wish me good health and a safe return:jester:

LMK when you have vacation... Its hard for me to go on Saturday, and Sundays are my Ashley days... lol And you're one of those 9 to 5ers that can't go during the week!!!!! ;)

We put in just South of 4th creek at Maxey's boat dock. I have also heard the lower end of Loudon is where most people fish but decide to explore this secton the last few weeks because of convienance and I like places where there aren't a bunch of boats. I've found several ledges with lots of woods that seem to be hit and miss. All places tons of fish should be. They have served their purpose for one thing. My son and daughter both got their first fish a couple of weeks ago. The bream were biting as fast as you could get your line in the water:

My wife also got her biggest fish. Although it was a drum it gave her a thrill. She wanted a picture bit wouldn't hold the fish.....and then complained I didn't get all of the fish in the picture:lol:

I've heard good things about 3 rivers as well. Thanks for the info on that one Mark75. I've been thinking about putting in at the South Knoxville bridge and going upriver.
FWIW in this weeks fishing report they said the smallies were really bitting around downtown. Unfortunately the fishing report is what was happenng last week:)
I'm looking forward to fishing the Clinch next week.

Chris

Great pics Chris. Family fishing is so much fun and the memories last forever.

Dave A and I went to Melton on Saturday. Caught about 5 each. I actually got 2 sm mouth. But all fish were small (6-10"). They werent pushing water from Norris and only 1 from Melton at 10 or 11am. We quit about noon.

Nice pictures!
We were sampling the Pigeon last week 12 casts and got 11 small mouths in 15 minutes. We were outside Newport so about 1 hour from Knoxville and the largest was 4#.

I am pretty sure the eating ban has been lifted for the Pigeon. The last to go was carp and game fish have been ok for a while.

Thanks guys:) I'm just glad they were biting that day. The first time I tried to take my daughter to a couple of ponds around here we caught nil.

KafudaFish,
I've been wanting to fish the Pigeon for a while now. Were you sampling closer to Newport or upstream around Hartford? I have yet to go scope it out but I have read there is good wading near Hartford via an access road. I've also read you can float it near Newport down to the French broad. What was the water temp?

thanks, Chris

Chris,
We were just outside Newport but upstream. I could tell you how to get to where we were if you are interested. We parked in a church parking lot across the street and carried our equipment in.
Most of that area you can float either canoe or kayak. There are a few areas that you would have to carry across the riffles. I have floated about 2 river miles around Newport and there were several pool areas that could have decent fishing.
I don't have actual temps since we did not recorded them but I would say around 62 - 65 F. We had waders on due to shocking but the bug collectors just wore shorts and wading boots.

Thanks Mike,
Unfortuntely I don't have a canoe. I'm thinking about heading down there later this week or early next week. I don't have any waders so I was curious if I would be able to stand it:)
Chris

Chris,
Yeah the water should be warm enough to walk around in. Of course it depends on what you are doing: standing vs. walking and your comfort level. For me I hate swimming in a cool pool that others find nice but I can walk around a stream that is in the lower 50's. Just a mind game I guess.

Spoke with Bass Pro customer service and as I expected some of the fish they purchase and some are donated. They said get with the person who runs the aquarium for the store closest to you and they may take it. I would guess that would mean calling the store and asking to speak with a manager then referral to the person in charge of the tank. (By the way that has to be a good job). In that environment it would feel like the wild as those tanks are huge. I love the one over just North of Atlanta. Hope that helps you out, best of luck. By the way how big is it? A local reefer hear does maintenance on alot of tanks and might be able to put it in one of his customers.
