Fish only tank

Hi there,

I was wondering if you could help me on, what best light type can be used for fish only aquarium display in my restaurant? how many do I need? How strong it should be that can shimmer on tanks bottom? And how much will it cost me, if it's available? And if not, where can I get them?

Kindly, I need all the possible details to have it in my tank. And, I was thinking of Metal Halid lighting, it would be more efficient, and if there is LED's in the market that can do the job then I'm all on it, it would be better for me as it is fish only tank with Sharks..

I live in Saudi Arabia "Jeddah city"...

the dimensions of this tank is (Octagonal form shaped)
- Hight: 354.33" (9 meters)
- Length: 236.22" (6 meters)
- Width: 236.22" (6 meters)

(Tank water capacity is : 85,488.10 us gallons)

Fish only tank don't require any special lighting. You can get anything.

for a tank that size fish only. I Would 7 to 8 thousand k 100 or Higher W LED FLOOD LIGHTS... You will not quite a few of them but each one at about 18 inches above the water should penetrate deep enough to give you good lighting shimmer if your water is moving well...

Your weather is also something to consider. If you have more very hot months MH Lighting is for sure out because you will almost need to install a chiller if your climate ls often say 10 deg colder MH Will add heat to the tank and be cheaper then running larger heaters..

For instance where i live my m/h lights i had on my tank i needed no heaters in the winter but in the summer i had to run ac all the time in my house and use a chiller. The cost is why i switched to LED even thou i think m/h is better for corals.

Just be careful to not get LOW Spectrum bulbs as you will promote bad algae to grow.. But a large UV unit could help counter act that. If i did not have corals and huge macro biology "reef bugs" for lack of better term i would run UV and do fewer water changes ...

You have a huge veriety of options with being FISH ONLY..

i would google LED FLOOD LIGHTS.. You want around 8000 kelvin Spectrum.. This is kinda pure white move above and they get blueish. which i think would be ok but not needed. you get below that into say 6000kelvin they start to look yellowish and this will promote bad algae .

As far as how many will depend on the exact size of the tank vs lights you choose.. i have only used them to 30w so i cant honestly tell how a 100w or 300w will penetrate with any accuracy ... most manufactures and sellers will give recommendations .It might be best to pick what you believe will work best and post links to them . At some point you might need to buy a few to test to see what you like best..


I am sure others will replay to this thread and give there opinion as well..

The aquarium is 28 feet deep? Not many lights will provide shimmer at that depth. You're looking at speciality lighting..to say the least.
 
Well, I'm going with the LED flood light, but all I found is 6500k and if couldn't get more then I'll do with them, with a multiple setts, and watch out for algae breakouts , and put some air-conditioning specially for it on top to make air ventilation and cool it down .. I guess that will do.. right?

I'm doing everything myself as here in Saudi we don't have much experienced people or companies to do so and it's gonna be my first big/large tank .. as I have a 900 gallon mixed reef in my house.. so, I think I'll manage it, and see what's gonna happen

Might want to call or email Kessil to see if the a2000 is ready yet. 800 watts of led a piece should penetrate.

Another question if I may..

I'm having a bio-balls along with carbon in my filter.. do I need to get bio- pellets as will or is that enough?

bio-balls should be enough. Do you have UV also?
IMO, you should look at MH for a tank that deep...or look at the GE high output LEDs used for commercial applications

Yes I did het 4 of them they had to customize it for the tank
