Fish only to reef tank

I am setting up a 125G 6ft tank. Ultimate goal is a reef tank with all bells and whistles. But due to time and money constraints and inexperience, I am thinking I will start with a fish only tank for about a year and then convert it to a reef tank once I gain confidence, understand the science, and gather gadgets. Is that reasonable?

Totally reasonable. Just choose reef-safe fish and inverts.

A problematic fish/invert can be a PITA to remove in a tank, especially a 125. Definitely do some research before you add anything. GL.
