question,
if i deside to go fish only for awhile, how much of the live rock can i get rid of?
i'll still will have the sump with refug.and skimmer. but i need to build a bigger stand and have a larger sump and refug. and thought i sould save some cash going fish only and have less lights and fewer water changes ect.

You will still want as much rock as possible, as this is a main means of filtration. You can have a display with little to no rock, but you will have to stock your sump full.

The only way I can think of that it might work would be doing massive water changes more frequently, but personally I wouldn't try it.

What type of fish are you thinking about for a FO? Or are you just doing away with the corals and keeping your current stock?

just doing away with corals and going back to my old vho's of maybe my old pc's just to save a little cash, till i can build a new stand so i can have a larger sump and a larger refug.
the set up i have now i have always had a problem with algee and i'm thinking its because i don't have a large enough fuge.

You don't have to have a fuge to have an algae free tank. In fact my previous 2 tanks both were sumpless. If you have algae you have phosphates. Remove the phosphates and you will beat the algae. But the key is to find out where you phosphates are coming from. There are certain animals that will consume algae such as urchins, tangs, sea hares, etc.

Also fwiw. I have seen plenty of killer fish only tanks. And they don't have to be predator tanks. I have always wanted a large angel and wrasse tank.

well after much though, i think i will in small amounts recure my live rock and change out all my sand bed including the sand in my refuge.
but i think i will still go back to a less intence light and only keep my leathers and frogspon corals till i can get a new stand built maybe this winter
