Fish other than the typical

Im looking for some options for some fish to eventually get into my tank. I have a 66gal. Red Sea mixed reef tank and I dont plan on upgrading size for some time. Right now I have 2 Cardinals, 2 Clowns, Diamond Goby, Starry Blenny, and Purple Fire Fish.

I know Im limited on certain fish like Triggers, Tangs, and FoxFace. I would really like to have some ideas when the time arises for some really cool and different fish to possibly put into my tank. Looking on sites like Live Aquaria at the fish they list I seem really limited.

For those of you that have been in the hobby for some time, please give me some input into other fish to look at and your experiences with them. I appreciate it.

Other than typical meaning rarer? Or just not popular? All depends on how deep your pockets are. The white yellow tangs or lightning maroons for example. Big money but not really rare. Or do not typical as a species tank or azoox. Think RFA and anemone shrimp. Or flashlight fish and suncorals.

Good question. In my mind, Im thinking not the typical run of the mill LFS inventory. Yet I still need it to be reef safe, and comfortable in my size of tank. Possibly something I could have ordered in or purchase online.

To be honest, I think you may be limited to like 95% the regular species due to your tank size. I can't think right off the top of my head, but there might some smaller unpopular ones out there. I was online on one vendors site and saw some rare fairy wrasses.

I Just ordered a flashlight fish from LA, will be here today. I also have purple tilefish, a quoyi parrot, and a goldflake angel. The angel and parrotfish are too big for an66 gallon but tilefish add a lot of color. Beware though, you MUST have a completely sealed tank, the are big time jumpers! One other fish that is cool is the fusilier damselfish, if you can find them.

Two of my favorite fish are my pair of Blue Star Leopard Wrasses. They are an excellent choice for a mixed reef. Peaceful, out and about cruising the reef all day hunting for things to eat (flatworms seem to be a delicacy), and visually some of the most stunning fish I have ever had. You do need at least a couple inches of sand for them to sleep in.

There are reasons why certain fish become the most often added. Thank size and type of tank (reef, FOWLR) difficulty of maintaining, fish compatibility and of course price begin to limit.
