You can't even drive to the airport and pickup your shipment for 25¢ per fish let alone get air freight for that.
Please stand outside your local LFS and ponder the expence involved in keeping it open and then consider what the owner needs to take out of the business to live in something less than poverty.
$2,000 power bills are not unusual and I think some stores would welcome a bill that size.
I don't know why I bother trying to make some people understand what it takes to keep a LFS viable. It's really no different if it's a LFS, fast food joint or a rubber store. :)

I know. :) I was not referring to all fish. In this case it was a certain group of damselfish. I am fully aware that not everything at the wholesaler costs less than a dollar and know very much about the ups and downs of running a business. :D

A business especially a new business is front loaded with costs that have to be paid up front!
Not only are these guys taking a chance, thier rent has and utilities have to be paid, no matter whether they make any money or not...

As the owner of a small business I know what I am talking about.
Then let's talk marketing and advertising, which comes out of profits....

If you can make it through the first few mo's without going broke you are doing OK...

So support them, I will.

You guys are right on about the ridiculous fish prices.

I just moved to HB and have been scoping out the stores.

The store near Stater Bros:
Ocean Reef Tropical Fish
(714) 965-7888
10110 Adams Ave, Huntington Beach

Their prices were about half of all of the other stores; only thing is the selection currently sucked. It is a small stor with a small setup, but sometimes that's not bad. The employee or owner said it would be two weeks until they got more fish because they were modifying the system.

It seems extremely hard to find a store with a lot of healthy looking fish. I cringe at buying a healthy looking $50 fish from a system with a bunch disease ridden, emaciated fish.
