Fish Recomendations

One of my clowns disappeared without a trace a week ago. His tank mates were another clown, a six line and a royal gramma. They all lived together peacefully for over a year. So now I am looking to replace him with preferably a colorful fish that could hold it's own without being over aggressive and swims freely in the water column. I really like a neon Pseudochromis, any other suggestions. It is a 25 gallon btw.

I had one for a few years..they will hold there own with almost anything once settled in..they aren't safe with anything with legs....

Like Mike said, pseudochromis tend to be pretty aggressive, especially toward similarly shaped fish. The sixline and gramma fit the bill pretty well, and in such a small tank adding a pseudochromis would be risky. Similar in coloration/body shape to the neon pseudochromis are the flasher wrasses, dwarf species of wrasse which are moderately difficult to keep but generally fare well in established tanks and are suited to a smaller environment such as your 25 (although you might want to keep an eye on your gramma, they can on occasion become very territorial). If wrasses aren't your thing (they can be quite pricey), firefish are colorful, interesting, inexpensive, and hardy.

The Gramma and the Pseudochromis are very closely related, they will not be a good mix in a small tank.

I wish I would have never gotten the gramma, the really limit the fish you could put in. When I had the clown the 4 of them were perfect together.

FalsePerc - would I be able to keep another wrasse with the six line? I was always under the assumption no, but that may depend on the type. I think the firefish would be too docile compared to the other 2 wouldn't it?

Thanks guys; I don't necessarily want a psuedo. I was looking for a tough little fish, so anymore suggestions you have would be great.

Hmm, you're probably right - I'd completely forgotten about the sixline. I doubt he'd appreciate another wrasse. What about a goby or a blenny? They're tough and really interesting.

i would def not try another wrasse. my six line harrassed my mystery wrasse when i added it and i had to remove the 6 line.

How about a Lawnmower Blenny.

Great personality. He'll be able to hold his own and won't mind the small tank. Plus he'll take care of algae.

Neon Pseudo might kill decorative shrimp. I have a Neon and I think he was responsible for a few shrimp disappearing.

I had a Lawnmower blenny for 10 years and over 6" until one day I found it on the floor.

I felt it was too big even for my 175G tank and it is a fish with charactor, but no colorful.

Royal gramma and any Pseudo mostly will fight until one is dead if you do not put them in the tank at the same time.

I never had any problem between six line wrass and Pseudo.

Thanks Everyone for the great advice. I am going to stay away from the pseudo.

I am going to shop around tomorrow and may go with the midas blenny or ywm.

I figured I will see what the local stores have and see how they fit.

I found my fish!!!!!!

He was in a tiny space in the first chamber of my overflow compartment. There is a space (about 1in by 1in) where I pour my 2 part. This morning I found a pair of eyes peeking up at me. I immediately pulled out the eggcrate I have for the overflow and the skimmer and grabbed her. I just hope she wasn't too stressed... I have no clue how she jumped and ended up there and not on the floor, on the skimmer or behind the tank.
