Fish room framing complete!

Finished the framing on my 9'x 6' fish room today, it will house my 72x42x24" 300 gallon tank. The only catch is it will still be a while as I have to finish the rest of the basement before the tank can go in. So there is still plenty of time left to plan everything out

Looking good! Not making the tank accessible from the front? I was going to do that until my LFS buddy convinced me to make doors at the front. I use the front access 90% of the time. I'm glad I added it.

Thanks...in the current round of "negotiations" I wasn't able to secure front access. There is, however, a decent length of build period where I hope to re-negotiate that part of the tank :)

Currently planning on a steel stand and will have the builder add steps on all 3 sides if the tank so I can get access to all panes easily

Thanks, it is a blessing to be able to finish my basement how I want and more importantly, a wife that encourages my obsession

HA! My negotiation went along this way "It's in the basement" "You don't go there anyways except to do laundry" "It's going to be my man cave, imagine all the free room you'll get elsewhere in the house" "I win!?"

I'm on the demolition phase now though, if I can get a truck to haul all the crap away though I'll be about where you're at in a couple weeks :D

My first wife left me as I was just getting at my best in the hobby...the tank seemed to be in between many times.

I remarried that woman 1 1/2 years later, and her and the kids have been back home for almost 3 years. This round she is mostly supportive of my madness luckily...she helped me carry a 120 sump into the garage this evening. Blessed we are.

Lol....isn't it fun :)

What size tank you planning on?

6' x 5' - 375g tank, 8' x 3' sump/refugium/timeout area.

I'd probably be closer to finish now if didn't think I still had the back I did when I was 20, little bit of neck pain that turns into full blown shoulder cramps that lasts for 3 days isn't fun :D

lots of advil!! and a beer or three should solve most of those issues...atleast while you are demo'ing

Isn't old age great!! :)

That will be an awesome tank....Glass or Acrylic?

I have been taking advil, the side effect is that I'm too damn sleepy to want to do anything... plus even though I stop feeling pain temporarily I know better than to push myself :D

Acrylic tank, even though I swore off acrylic, kind of hard to say no to free tanks that are significant upgrades. My last tank was a 4' x 3' 180g acrylic tank, also free. *sigh* Of course the "free" part is just the tank, it costs quite a bit more to actually do something with that tank.
