Hey thanks guys. I went to Wet Pets, that place is sweet. I purchased 2 True Percula`s. The only negative is that they were acting really funny and I took water down to get it tested and as it turns out since I tried to save money and bout a deep six to check salinity as opposed to just getting a refractometer my salinity is 1.028 as opposed to the 1.023 that it was reading. I took out 4g of water last night and replaced it with 4 g of RO/DI and within minutes they percked up a decent amount( salinity now 1.026ppm). I have water ready to go and when I get home from work I will be replacing another 4g. Once again the moral of the story is DONT GO CHEAP!!
I only temperature acclimate. A healthy fish is very resiliant to small changes in salinity or nitrates...especially a shipped fish I will put in immediately due to the buildup of toxic nitrates and the progressive lowering of pH in the bad. Research has shown that the CO2 from fish respiration lowers the pH, and that simply opening the bag causes a pH spike of up to .5. The analogy is a human being going from a garage full of Carbon Monoxide experiencing shock by opening the door and walking outside. You wouldn't experience shock so much as relief. Store bought fish are different, but I prefer to get them in the tank water as soon as the temperature's are equalized, and don't experience losses this way. Drip acclimation would be my second choice.
AND... his saltwater fish system is usually running around 1.016 at best. Those poor fish are sure to get shocked in any aquarium that is kept correctly. I deal only with Wet Pets now.
