Fish Sitter Question

Not Likely 2 Ever Grow Up
Not that we have plans to go anywhere any time soon, but I was just thinking the other day if we did have to leave town for a few days, who do you get to take care of your fish?

My old tanganykian cyclids were fine for several days left on their own - but there was no skimmer to empty and adjust, no evaporated water to replace, daily dosing of calcium or magneseum or whatever, and upsidedown snails to flip over...

Is there a fish sitting service? Club members that one calls? Or does no one ever leave the state? LOL

Just curious.

im with ya on this jen...do we just like talk to each other and see who can make it to whomevers house or is there someone special and if not how bout lets set something like that up? personally i wouldnt mind taking care of thiings while other friends are gone but the thing is i seem to live so far out away from many of ya guys/gals :(

There is a service that do it for a price. And don't remember the name. I always have a friend or a family member that I'll give them # of people in the club that can help to who is ever watching the house if something happens like a pump that goes out or anything. My tank is easy just clean the skimmer cup every 3days and ro/di water to the ATO. Which most of the time it will last a week. I got a timer for food and dosing.

I'm lucky to have Justin down the street and a guy that been in to saltwater for 25+yrs.

So if you can trust someone in the club that lives by you have them watch or can have my number for the non reefer that is tank setting.

Being rather new in the club, I honestly don't know who would be "close" to where I live. I know there are a number of MTRC people in Murfreesboro - but I'm a good 20 miles from the center of Murfreesboro - out in "cow country" or "deliverance country", as some city folk might put it. LOL My husband and I live on a 40 acre farm (with 2 horses, 1 pony, 2 goats, 1 dog, 1 cat, 2 kittens - and of course, the fish tank). We live next door to a dairy and across the street from what my husband calls "hamburger" cows (AKA angus). There isn't anyone out here that would know the first thing about aquariums... but I could be wrong.

It would be really helpful to have members names and city where they live and phone number - if, of course, they agree to allow it to be shared. Never can be too prepared for the unexpected emergency!

Readyville is a real place. Guess i got get use to all these villes. Lol I'm from Michigan not to many ville up there.:mixed:

ROTFL Yeah - Readyville is a "real" place. It's between Murfreesboro and Woodbury. Our property backs up to Cannon county - but we are in Rutherford.

I live about 15 miles from Readyville on the back side of Woodbury in Smithville. I am from Michigan too, and I think I was from one of the FEW villes(Fowlerville) LOL

I also read an ad on www.golsn.com for somebody who "fish sits or does aquarium maintenance"

Rick is really close to Readyville, too.

When I had a tank at home, if I was leaving for a week or so, I'd just fill up the ATO and feed the fish before I left. My controller took care of the rest. :)
