I have had some clicking but I don't know what it is.
Are clarkii safe in a tank with Mantis shrimp?

The clicking has become quieted. I don't know if it died or is just calmed down. My nitrates are still a bit high.

There are 2 things that click that I know of, a mantis, and a pistol shrimp.
They have differences in clicking to tell apart, but I'm not certain what that is.
And yeah, pretty much nothing safe w/ a mantis, even you!
Wouldn't reach around in there myself, could get a nasty boo boo!

If you have two clarki clowns, it could be the clowns. Clownfish can make clicking noises when they are defending their territory or forming bonds between themselves.

The clowns are in a completely different tank. Sorry if that was confusing.

you can make your own trap really quick from a 500ml plastic soda bottle and a bit of fish food, that's how I got my mantis out of my tank years ago, pm me if you want the details on making it.

Iw ould try lemec water bottle/soda bottle trap, its great, Ive also used this trap in the past, if you do have a mantis shrimp, Neat! I'd set up an accrilic tank for it and keep it as a pet they are neat creatures with minds of their own

if its clicking, then IF its a mantis its a smasher. which normally dont eat fish.

Still...not something I would chance with my fish...it's one thing to have a fish die, but mantis shrimps are brutal.

one more thing to consider, snail shells tapping on the glass. can happen if they get close to a powerhead. I thought I had a mantis for years, just snails on the glass

It was not snails on the glass. I had specific numbers of hermits and only one snail, and it's huge. But no, it was nowhere near the glass. Yes, I've heard that glass clacking before. It's quite a different kind of sound though.

I'm not sure if I heard the sound tonight. It was about 30 seconds before the lights went out, which has its own kind of click. Actually, it's the same kind of click as the lights going out except, about 2/3's as loud. Sometimes quiter than that too. Like it's in a cave. But since it was so close to the lights out click, I'm suspicious.

Does this sound like the description of a click of a pistol shrimp "if" he is still alive?

i had a mantis come in on some rock once... made very loud clicking noises for several months before i ever saw him. turned out to be a smasher type, g. ternatensis. he ate several fish (including my paired female black occ.), hermits, and snails. i finally took his rock out and smashed it with a sledgehammer... and sold the mantis to a fellow reefer who wanted to set up a tank for him. hope it doesn't come to that for you

I heard hip pop again today. I know he's alive. The nitrates were almost gone yesterday. I'll check them again tonight.
