Fishboy's 150g Build Thread

My wife and I were fortunate enough to purchase our first home at the beginning of the month. Naturally, we (I) looked for a home that would allow me to have a room dedicated to my aquariums. I have been around the hobby for a while but this will be my first large aquarium. I currently a custom made clownfish breeder setup with 2 holding tanks for clownfish pairs.

In planning the purchase of the new tank, I wanted something large enough to house several tangs and possibly a smaller angel down the road. Taking in to consideration of the space, I settled on a 5' tank.

-----Already-----

Planted Aquariums 150g (60"x24"x24") with center overflow. 4 holes, 2 (1") bulkheads and 2 (3/4") bulkheads. Planning to do a durso drain with an emergency drain. Return from sump will be a Mag 9.

Lighting: ATI 48" (8) Bulb Powermodule suspend from the ceiling.

Skimmer: Bubble Magus Curve 7 (not completely sure I will stay with it. Currently throws out a lot of micro bubbles which is uber annoying.

-----Planning------

Going to baffle a 40 breeder for the sump.

Flow: Considering a couple of the Jebap R-15's.

Calcium Reactor: Geo CR618

Rock: 80lbs from Reef Cleaners

-----Stocking-----
Corals: Mostly SPS with zoas and a few chalices
Fish: Picasso Pair. The rest is undecided. I'd like to have a few tangs with a couple wrasses and anthias. Also intrigued by an angel, particularly the Regal. However, not sure if I'm willing to deal with the care this animal needs.

Please feel free to share advise and criticism. That's the best way to learn.

Congrats to you two!

Owning a house is a great step :)

Can't wait to see the tank come along as well!

I can't tell by the pic but you need to have 2x4's under the frame as well as the ones screwed into it. You may have them but they don't show in the pics. You want to make sure the tank is supported. I like that size, it will be a nice treasure for a new house.

There are definitely 2x4s underneath the frame alongside the 2x4s screwed into frame. Good thinking.

Is this to be a sump for a tank that meets the 180+ gallons display tank criteria of this forum?

Well, the requirement is not a 180 gallon display, but 180 gallons of total water volume. With my sump, this requirement is met as I understand it.

Don't mean to cause any issues....if my thread is not allowed, by all means delete it mods.

Update

Ordered 65lbs of rock from Reef Cleaners and some supplies from Bulk Reef Supply. Hopefully I will have the sump done this weekend.

Got the back of the tank painted and in place in the study. Also siliconed in the baffles into the sump over the weekend. Should receive some supplies this week and will update accordingly!
