I'm cycling a 10 gallon tank which will be used for freshwater,

I started this on April 2nd

Water TEsts

4/4 Ammonia 5.0, Nitrite 0

4/9 Ammonia 5.0, Nitrite 0

4/10 Ammonia 4.0, Nitrite 0.25

Added more ammmonia about 3 drops

Test Today

Ammonia 5.0, Nitrite 0

Im confused how come nitrite isnt rising?

I have 1 Live plant in there, temp at 80 degrees, only thing I added was top off water

Using stress coat or is that the problem?

Your best bet is to ask on a freshwater forum.

That said, I'm not sure exactly what your question is? If the tank's only been up for two weeks, it's probably just not had the time to establish a bacterial population. Your only source to seed it (besides environmental sources) was that lone plant, which might not have introduced much of a bacterial population.

Indeed, that plant is taking nutrients out of the water and likely altering the cycle process.

What are your end goals for this tank? Will it be planted heavily? IME the best FW tanks were heavily planted, since the plants act as a very effective means for removing nutrients and organic material from the water, eliminating the need for cycling or heavy-duty filtration.
