Fishroom in unfinished basement....insulation question?

I have an unfinished basement area that will become my fish room in the upcoming months. Since this is going to be a dedicated fish room should I insulate the ceiling and the wall that separates the fish room from the rest of house?

Thanks in advance

Well if you are asking in this forum you will need to address humdity issues, aka venting.

Is your basement within 5 degrees if your tank temp year round? Then insulate now and save money later with less heating or cooling.

Also nsulation will end up lowering noise levels in adjacent areas

I am also asuming you are going to seal up, aka finish, the fish room, you reallyi dont want unprotected wood in a humid environment as you are asking for mold issues.

Sphack - I currently have a Panasonic FV-04VE1 WhisperComfort Energy Recovery Ventilator Fan installed in the fish room. It is connected to an Air King DH55 Dehumidistat. I have had it installed for a over a month now the combination seems to be working as it should. I have not drilled a hole in the house siding yet because I am need to decide on if my new deck will interfere with the vent or not. I am actually meeting with a deck builder this evening to discuss some options. My fish room is framed and I just need to make some modifications so I can hang drywall.

I'm in a similar boat. Are you looking at putting in any ventilation?

sfsuphysics - Venting should not be a problem I hope :). I am more worried about temp issues. I am not sure if the basement is going to be within 5 degrees of the home. We just purchased the home last May and really did not fully move in until June or July. I am hoping that insulating does not lead to temperature issues. I am old school and will be running MHs. Maybe four 400 watt Radium 20ks. I may supplement with some LEDs for actinic.

Henry I had a similar set up on my tank in NJ. I had the wall separating the fish room from the living finished and insulated primarily for sound reasons. We left the ceiling unfinished because of all of the pipes that were there. We had no issues with moisture issues mainly because of the ventilation system I had.

Can you elaborate on your venting system?

it was a fantech hrv system. i dont remember which one it was. it did a great job of keeping humidity around 50% with a system that was about 450g between the display, sump and frag tank.

Steve,
Did you use regular insulation or the noise stuff on the wall connected to the living area?
