fishroom planing

Okay I will be building a sump room soon and im trying find a good price pump okay I think I found what I want but its uses to much power $80.00 which is too much so i went down to a 1/2HP I wont have alot of flow but all I need it to do it take the water up I will probably buy strong tunzies. This still uses $45.00 a month but much better. I think it would be 99GPH not bad I just need it to take the water up. Do you guys have any ideas or know any better pumps.

Are your sure anout the costs to run these pumps? It costs me $80 a month to run my entire fishtank, and i have MH's, actinics, 2 fuge lights, 7powerheads, and a lot more other things. I don't think this pump would cost that much to use (at least I hope not).

wait..... did you make sure that these prices are in agreement with the electricity prices in Hungry?
and also, hp doesnt really matter for electricity, that is jsut how powerful they are. use watts. also, make sure it is for the town and location you are in

You mentioned that it is rated for 99GPH. Check it again. It is gallons per minute, not hour. They are rated for 3600GPH for 1/2 HP. Do you have a 180g tank or larger? If not, you probably don't need something that big for sure. Check it out again.

What size tank are you setting up and how high up does the pump have to push the water (head pressure)?

wait, how did hungary get into this?
he's moving to hungary and building the house now. hence the reason why a fish room is being built

My tank is a 175g tank which will be up stairs the sump downstairs in a small storage it will be a rubbermaid but not sure how many gallons. I think the PVC pipe will be like 40feet.

I'm running a Sequence 5800 SW, 1/3 hp on one of my tanks and the Flow Rate @ 4` Head: 5520gph. At 336 watts, no way is it costing me $80/month to run.

Just to give you an idea. If you get the size pump you are talking about, 1/2 hp, I can almost assure you that the tank drains will not be able to handle the flow. So ... can you guess what happens ... the tank will overflow the sides and all over the floor and then ... here comes your wife with a broom handle ...

Why do you have to go up 40 feet? I'm not sure you will find a pump that will handle that head pressure and still not overflow your tank. The pump aforementioned, is rated for a max Head: 23ft

Looking at the flow chart, the 1/2 hp has a max head of 38 feet, so you may be at a 0 flow rate from it. I think you would need to step up to the 3/4 or 1 hp pump for those pumps. A store I worked at used these pumps on their systems. I do not recall the exact models, they had 3 or 4 of them running of different sizes and they were not quiet. Not sure if that makes any difference for you. I also am not sure how old they were and this is going back 10 years so they might be better at this point.

You might want to check out the sequence pumps (like the Manta Ray). You will pay more money up front for it, but IMO it is a much better pump.

I was trying to compare the watts of each and if I am reading it right the 1/2 hp Pentair pump runs at 793.5 watts, 3/4 at 1058 and 1 hp at 1380. The sequence manta ray runs at 771 watts.

Okay My Display is 175g sump im hoping about 50g and I will have a 20g fuge. I also thought $80.00 is to much.---Okay I copied this from the DFS smith site--1HP-22" x 9" x 11"-$79.49-
The pvc pipe will be like 35-40 feet. The tank will be upstairs in the living room. There putting in a huge metal rod for me to support the weight. And I wont get chased by the wife im 13 haha

I was sayin that it will be like 40 feet max because the pipe wont be straight it will have 1-2 turns...

argi- Thank I will look at those pumps. I dont need them in a hurry but i need to know what the pvc pipe size will need. I told the people there to put in a 1 1/2" for the seahorse pump but can I leave it like that if not I need to tell him by tommorow cause the roof will be finished in 2 days and they will put the pipe in.

You really need to get a better idea of what the head pressure will be. There is a risk here that you will either get a pump that is way too big or or possibly too small, but probably too big. Remember each vertical foot counts as 1, and each 90 degree turn counts as 1 and 10 feet horizontal counts as 1.

I wouldnt have 40 feet of head if I put my tank on the second floor and my sump in the basement!!

My guess is you actually have something like 20 feet of head (but i could be wrong). If thats the case, a good pressure rated iwaki or pan world pump would be ideal.
