Fishy's back with a rimless A.G.E.

Time for a monthly update. I've added seven fish, one Lubbock wrasse and seven Anthias. I also added a few sps frags last week and I'm pleased that they've started to lay down a base over the super glue and are coloring up nicely. Let me know what you think so far.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it.

Austin- The top of the overflow is 2.5" below the rim and the water level sits 3" below the rim. Hope this helps.

Mike not as much as I thought there'd be. I need to make a few small mods to the sump so the overflow goes directly into the chamber where the skimmer is.

By the way if you haven't been to Kingfish lately you should swing by and check out the new acans John has. Freaking amazing!

Dude, why do you tease me like that? I'm currently tankless. On the other hand, I guess the office tank could use some new acans :)

Whoa... I was following Dudester's threads that have split and it lead me here.

I've wasted half my time here at work with my jaw open and I'm currently mopping the drool. You guys did a great job with this tank. Was sorry to see the GHA take over Dude's tank. I had GHA and the only way I've been able to get it to subside is running GFO and relentless water changes. I've yet to get color back from my SPS due to the ordeal, but they are slowly coloring up now.

I'll look forward to follow this thread and hope to see many new future successes.

Eric thank you for the kind words! They (dudester and kingfish) did a fantastic job planning and designing this tank it'll be hard not to have success.

Since my last post I added a wave box and took some new pictures. You'll notice the W.B. in the back corner facing the front glass. This allows for a cleaner look and the wave action is still good producing about a 2 inch wave. I'm looking to borrow a nano wave box before I make my final decision on which one ot go with. Jar*Head says the nano will work too but without the huge sand dunes created by the flow.

I'm also having a hard time getting the MG levels where they should be. I've dosed a gallon and a half of ESV MG and my levels have gone from ~1100 to 1250. My KH is around 9 and CA ranges from 320~360. Any thoughts on why the MG won't come up? I'm using Tunze salt.

On to the pictures

are you running a CA reactor? you could use some of the KZ mag media in there.

have you tested your tunze water change water for MG?
looking good dude.

Nick no reactor as of yet, just two part dosing. I'm actually considering the balling method.

I did test my last water but the specific gravity was a 1.021 and ran out of salt so those numbers were a little skewed. But at 1.021 the MG levels in the Tunze salt were @ 1000.

Looks great Clint! :D

I know from experienece that you have to use TONS of Mg. supplements to bring up its level... intially it seemed like an ungodly amount.

Assuming the Tunze salt tests out appropriately when at correct SG, I'd expect once you bring it up to par this time, your usual water changes should mostly maintain it after that (+ small additions through balling/2-part)... however that makes me curious as to why/how it got down that low considering you dont have a large uptake of it yet....

My tank is supposed to ship this week :) The WB is almost un-noticeable how you've placed it... nice and sleek. I've been talking to Steve (Jar*Head) about doing something similar in my tank so I'll be curious to know if you like the orignal or nano version better. I dont see any major dunes in the pics you posted... did you "rake" them out?

Austin- did rake the dune down a bit before I took the picture. I'll take one post-storm so you can see the difference. I thought it'd help a little by placing that rock where the sand gets washed out but didn't seem to diffuse it at all.

Steve is a cool dude and knows his stuff when it comes to Tunze.

Good luck with your build, I'm sure it will blow mine away.

Cool man, thanks! Its amazing how much water those things can move...

Yep, Steve is a freak  ...in the best means possible :D

Thanks but I highly doubt that, you've done an awesome job... I hope to match you in my own respect ;)

Austin, with your tank dimension the nano wavebox may be a bit hard to dial in. But it will work.... :D.

Clint, thank you for the kind word....

Hey Steve thanks for dropping by. Still thinking about moving to this area? We need more great reefers like yourself around here to help out with our "image" :)

Clint, i would love to move to TX but that is not up to me. The Gov own me and i'll have to go where ever they want me to move. As for being "GREAT REEFER" , i think Mike fit that category better . I have been following your thread since day one but i didn't say much cuz Mike was all over it ....:D

Well I changed out all 10 bulbs today and I think I like it. I copied Syzomn's current bulb configuration. The back of the tank has a 20K feel and the front has a 12K feel. I also ordered a few extra bulbs just in case the look doesn't grow on me. I just hope my little frags don't bleach from the change in par.

Your tank look nice and BLUE Clint. I really like your rock work... I will need your help later when i am ready to setup my new tank...

Great looking tank, I am trying to inspire myself to get mine setup quick eventhough it is going to be a huge expense at these slow times.

Thanks for the info on the powermodule that is the biggest bullet i have to bite with the 280 arriving saturday.

Great pics can wait to see that thing fill out.

Jason
