I have a 12 gal nano and I was wondering what is the best skimmer to get ? I do not currently have one running. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Jill

My experience is not good with the fission skimmer and went out got the CSS 65 and AquaC Remora and both are working fine. Some here on the forum got it working but I think more people were having problem. I suggest you search on this forum.

I purchased the nano fission skimmer as well, not a good investment. mine would skim "okay" but the amount of microbubbles was infuriating. I had to use two or three of the "microbubble reducing filter rings" and since the unit only comes with like 6 of those things, I can see alot of money being wasted trying to get a mediocre product to work half way.

I tried the Fission skimmer...fisses out. Too many micro bubble on the return. It never really skims, column is to short & narrow...not enough contact time.

I am just starting a 12g nanocube dx. I am not planning on using a skimmer, but will have LR and possibly chaeto in the middle chamber. In a tank that small, you should be ok with just water changes if you are using good water and your bio-load isn't too high.

I am planning on doing a 2g water change every 2 weeks, but we'll see how it goes.

eh, you can go without a skimmer but why risk the health of your fish? even if the bio load isn't very high, ammonia/nitrates may not kill your fish all the time, but it sure is a source of stress. but then again, we're not talking thousands of dollars usually anyways, a skimmer for a 12G tank wouldn't cost much anyways.

Can anyone who owns the Fission Skimmer tell me where to find the circular floss replacements? My skimmer came with 6 of them and I only have one left.

Thank you

I had the fission skimmer and was never able to get good results. I purchased the Tunze nano skimmer and it is working great. Good investment!!!!

i think a prizm might fit. still not the greatest skimmer but ive heard that some people have gotten them to work on small tanks.

i have a cprbakpak2r

you shouldn't need to skim with regular water changes on a tank that snall but if you must, try a red sea air lift, they work grat and work off of a airpump, requires little room, wont work if you have i fitted top as you need a couple inches out of the water for the collection cup.

I would just rip the stock hood off, but a remora and buy one of those jbj 70w or 150w mh lights, but that's just me.

lighting, skimming, LR, stable temp@SG, water flow, and water changes are the keys to reef keeping...IMHO, in that order.

Dosing and/or feeding would be the next two.

So, a good skimmer on a 12 gal would be a must for me.
