Fixing my STN problem for good. Prime Coral DIP and other methods.

A lot of you have helped me out before, but for some reason, I'm still suffering massive amounts of STN. Corals will grow well then start to die one after the other STNing from the tops dying SLOWLY.

I've had several local guys, good at growing SPS, check out my system and we are all stumped.

I've been chasing parameters forever and now thinking it could be something else. So looking at some extreme measures of fixing the problem.

Documenting my path on YouTube, maybe it will help someone.

Hope you find the cause and get it sorted out in time to save most of the coral.

May be a long shot, but I've heard of a newer product "Stop RTN" and "Prevent RTN" that seems to claim RTN/STN may be related to some sort of bacterial thing. Being so new, I don't think there's alot of evidence for it yet. I think the Stop RTN one is a dip, and the Prevent RTN one is an in tank treatment. Perhaps worth reading about at least. I'd look more into it if I were having issues with alot of coral. I'm kind of waiting for others to give it more reviews before I would just pick some up to keep on hand.

If it helps, I've had some of my corals STN in the past, only to later recover and some of those pieces are the largest I have in my tank at over 12" diameter. IME, the fight's not over until the coral is 100% gone. I've just made sure to keep my tank chemistry rock solid and stable, and to gently remove any algae or anything that may be growing on or agitating the dead portions of the STNing coral. i've had maybe 60% overall success just doing that with STNing coral. I've also cut the dying stuff off and re-glued with some success. have yet to find a high success rate though. More of a damage control to help the coral have the best chance of healing on their own.

To me, the Prime coral claims feel very suspect. I'd like to think they are true, but they provide very little real info. Further, reading interactions the Dr has with people on the other forum and Facebook has really turned me off on it. He may have the cure, but I'd rather let my coral die than give any money to a man that just insults anyone that is a skeptic.

Not able to watch the video right now, but if you haven't seen it, look into witch hazel dip. I've seen others have success with it.

Thanks for the advice. I address some of my tank's parametes in my next video which I'm about to post. They are pretty stable and now I'm letting them stabilize even more now that I removed all of my SPS.

Thanks for the feedback. I've tried the witch hazel dip and it didn't do much for me, but I'm willing to try again. Will talk about that in my first Q&A. Personally I'd rather my corals not die...

I had issues with burnt tips that would slowly kill my sps.

Switched to Tropic Marin Pro reef salt years and years ago.... problem literally reversed and resolved within a few weeks.... I always had all my SPS slowly burn from the top down and once I did that my corals took off....

It could be something as simple as the salt you use.

Also another good thing to dose is Red Sea Coral Colors ABCD Supplements.... I have recommended this to a few friends when they run into issues with there corals and it has always helped.... I think a lot of times we do not replace the trace elements enough and our corals do suffer.

Thanks for the recommendation. I recently just switched to HW-Marinemix Reefer so let's see if any change comes from that. If I'm still stumped in a few weeks I may switch to the salt you use. I've been told the HW is a great salt.
