seeings how I just posted in the dirty sandbed contest I figured I should post what I'm doing to fix it. I was running a seaclone 100 in sump for a skimmer and I'm pretty sure everyone knows by now how I like to diy everything I can so heres what went online at 7pm tonight
its got a 3" body and is about 4' overall. that was a pic before I made a few test runs and mods. The pump I'm running on it now is about equivelent to a mag 2.5, through the course of the build I came to realize that it wouldn't be strong enough to pull air on its own so I added a ceramic airstone that will be changed out to a wooden one once I get a few free minutes to stop and buy one. I plan on adding another one (total of two wooden diffusers). I can adjust flow and how wet it skims 3 different ways and I can inject air directly above the pump if I decide I want even more air added. I also recently started useing gfo as well as running carbon. Next on the list is to add more to my clean up crew as I'm down to about 1/2 dozen snails (not including a handfull of baby turbos that I noticed the other night) I'm also thinking about building a sulphur denitrifier to add to the equipment list. And last but not least a ro/di unit is soon to follow as I'm fairly sure that quite a bit of my issues are stemming from not useing one. Tomorrow I'll have to test my water before I do a water change and post up the numbers so we can all track my progress. As far as other things that I'm currently incorporating are dsb in tank and in fuge and macro in fuge (cheato ball about the size of a basket ball) and I need to get my filter sock installed again. I've also cut back on feedings quite a bit. well I think that pretty well covers everything so happy reefing everyone
