Flame angel in a reeftank???

I like lps more then sps due to feeding capability .thinking about getting some acans this weekend also miami hurricane chalice. I have a fish credit to my lfs and their coral selection is better then the fish selection.but they have a few nice flames, thats why I ask cause ive personally seen reefers keep flames with out a hitch,i guess its the individual fish at hand. Some do some dont but my luck ill get one that does lol

LPS are not a good bet for many kinds of fish, but especially angels (including dwarves). I've had some success with the more noxious (frogspawn, torches, etc.), but would never trust any angel with anything fleshy like acans, lobos, favia, or other brain corals.

Yeah thats what I was thinking,i just dont want to get one then fish em out a few days later cause a coral that exceeds the price of that fish was eaten

I'd have to agree with what others have already posted. In my own experience; it's a better than 50-50 chance that it will be reef safe. You just have to expect the worst and hope for the best if a Flame is something you'd like to add. It's almost always the 'horror' story that you read about or hear that sticks in your head. I've had Flames, Lemon Peels, Potter's, and Rusty. Out of all the smaller angels I've had - only one turned out to be a coral muncher. The Potter's I currently have leaves my LPS (Acans and Blastos included) alone. I got it from an established reefer that was tearing down his setup so it was already acclimated to life with some LPS and SPS.

When I first got it; I purposely kept it well fed and slowly decreased feedings to see if it would nip at my corals. Nothing. It simply grazes now on the rocks.

I've had a Flame for some time now, and all it does is pick at algae and what not.
I have softies, Acans, clams, etc and he hasn't touched a thing.

Seems like people say hit or miss, or 50-50, but from reading and seeing what everyone has in their tanks I assume it's more like 8-20 good/bad

I guess it really depends on the individual fish. I have acans, favia, trachyphyllia, frogspawn, torches, gorgonians, anemones, montis, acros, bubble coral etc. and nothing has been picked on and I have had these fish for several years. My copperband doesn't even mess with them. I worry more about my acans eating the flames. LOL I guess it's luck, but I have 3 flame angels in total. (Each in separate tanks) None of them pick on corals. I have had 4 flames in total and 1 out of the 4 ate coral. I guess my odds have been really good. However, I do offer them food 2 x per day.
