ive done my reading on these fish and i am mixed on getting one...anyone with a all SPS tank with clams have one of these?? if so any problems??

I have one with SPS & LPS, no problems

Usually these are really good, but just like anything there may be a bad apple in the bunch.

Have one in an all SPS tank--problems. It's a definite coral nipper, and I've lost some PE. But the nipping seems to encourage more dense growth which is kinda cool and certainly natural to the ocean. With a nipping flame LFS (that I respect) strongly advised against clams, so I didn't buy it (hence some respect).

It's a case-by-case basis for each fish.

I have SPS and clams...never nipped any corals or mantles. If it ever did..it did it once and doesnt continue to do it. Some nip at corals, but usually they are reef safe.

i took my flame out of my 60 gal sps tank....kept nipping the tips off my corals and keeping their polyps retracted.

i put a potters in its place, and so far no problems.

They might nip a little but dont really cause any damage to SPS. Ive never had a flame angel go for a clam but I would imagine the end result wouldnt be good.

I've had one for a couple of years in a sps reef with no problems. Now my blue hippo use to pick at my wellso and my foxface picked at my zoanthids.

Like pretty much everyone else said, it is a little risky but certainly possible. I've had one in my reef for ~3 years and love him - gorgeous fish. He does nip at corals occasionally so PE isn't as good as it could be, but I don't think it really does any harm. I have a 2 year old blue maxima clam that he hasn't ever touched, but I did have to move my prized 4 year old derasa clam to my frag tank because the flame angel picked at it non-stop and would have killed it otherwise.

I am wondering about the size of the tank possibly playing a part in weither or not either of these dwarfs will or won't?

Have one in my 40 breeder with predominatly SPS with some acans on the bottom. He nipped at coral for a bit when I added them, but rarely nips at them now. Its hit or miss with them. I try to keep mine well fed so I dont have to worry about him nipping coral again.

guess its a crap shoot? i had a foxface nip at my crochea and got rid of him before he killed it.. guess ya never know.... just looking for that red in my tank i guess...maybe ill try some sorta wrass...not sure im ready to gamble this one, ill never be able to catch him in my reef...

I once had one in a sps/lps tank with no isues. Then i knew a friend who bought one, and he couldent keep sps, as they would be eaten. Now i dont know if i dare to try it or not. Does any one have any experience on if you keep them well fed, that they wont touch sps/lps ?

its a beautifull fish thought, so i am close on taking the chance.

I have one in a 40br, he nips at my SPS. Leaves my LPS alone. PE is pretty much non-existent (great at night though ;)). I was thinking about taking him out, but it would be too much of a pain, so the corals will just have to deal. As long as he's fed he is ok. Most nipping seems to happen when I introduce new frags to the tank. I kinda miss the fuzziness on milles..
