Flame Angel question please

I have decided to get a Flame Angel as my last fish. I don't have any Angel fish in tank thus far. Anyway, wanted to get advise. There are two at LFS. One appears brighter in coloration & appears sightly aggressive as far as swimming in tank & top fin seems constantly up. Other one is not quite as bright & seems more docile & laid back. I am torn between them because one is better color & the other appears less aggressive. I like a peaceful tank but also like the brighter color. I have to make a choice. In a fairness the brighter color one was in a tank with a convict tang & a couple of other big fish, and the mild one was in a tank with all yellow tangs.

I currently have a junvenile yellow tang, 2 ocellarus false precula clowns & six line wrasse.

Do you think the different personalities are attributed to inhabitants of tank their in or do Flame Angels have distinct personalities when coming to aggression?

Any advise or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Once a dwarf angel settles in, it'll be bold! :)

So get the bold one right off the bat.

I agree with bax, the flame angel is by far my favorite of the dwarf angel family and I just got my 3rd one yesterday (have had them in different tanks) and they may seem shy at the beginning but all have become bold once they become established. Great choice in fish. I will be posting mine in the next couple of minutes.

I agree with the above. Get the nicest looking one. They are typically bold fish, so either the other one is still adjusting or something maybe wrong with it. JMO

I agree with everyone on this. Get the one that has the better coloration. The drably colored one, once well established will be just as aggressive as the bright one. 9e

Get the one which looks the healthiest. Colouration is a good indicator.
Agree with the above statement. Also, the "laid back" Flame may not be as healthy as he looks and thats why he seems peaceful. In my opinion, a Flame Angel that is NOT agressive to some degree is not a healthy specimen. JMO Good luck to you!

also if you find your tang picks on it at first, put some mirrors in one corner of the tank and it'll ease some of the aggression. I got a flame and a coral beauty at the same time for my 90 and my tang was picking on both of them as soon as they came outta the bag. i put some dvds around the bottom of the tank in one corner and all the aggression stopped!

Thanks for all the comments and advise. Picked up the bold color one. It is a great fish, I have done much research on it. Thanks again to all for your replies. I always respect first hand experience here at RC.
