Would it be too risky to put a small flame angel in my 40g reef tank. I have one on hold at the store but have read some mixed suggestions. Any of you guys have one with or without luck with corals?
mine behaves himself, even when only being fed every 3 days, its really pot luck with most fish, theres always one bad apple out there waiting for you to bring him home =)
I would not do another Flame. Had one in a 75gal with mostly softies - my big leathers would not open when he was in the tank. Once I got him out, everything was opening up again. I now have a Coral Beauty with no problems.
I had one that worried me at first. He was always picking at the live rock, and he too would occasionally nip at Green Star polyps but never actually hurt them. You can of course get a bad one but they show thier true habits within days.
I'd worry more about putting a flame in a 40 gallon because of the space.
Mine rules my 150 and is very territorial. It killed a coral beauty it lived with for many yrs peacefully. They like to swim around between rocks and I just dunno if a 40 gal would be enough.
I wouldnt even put one in my 55.
I think youd be better off with a pygmy/cherub.
Now I looked up liveaquaria and they say 30 gal or larger.
I usually agree with their tank size rec. but knowing how mine is would'nt put one in a small tank.
Have LFS feed it while you are there and make sure it eats, otherwise it could be difficult to get it to eat once its in your tank. Im not sure if it would go after corals if it rejected the food.
