ok i know the answer but looking for a gleam of hope.i read and seen all the articles saying all dwarf angels are not reef safe.but on the other hand i come across picture of peoples reef pictures and some people do have flame angel.has people here have any sucess with the flame angel.hes an awesome looking fish who wouldnt want him.

I have my flame angel for 2 years and he has not bothered anything except nips the clam once a while. I also have a potters angel who don't bother anything. But this is just my fish and each fish is different. I also keep my fishes well fed and don't let them starve so they don't have to look elsewhere for food.

I have a pair of Flame angels and initially they nipped at my feather dusters but they've stopped and are now behaving themselves.

how often do you feed your fish???

boy this looks good already +2 on the flame.but like the TDHNRY said every fish is differant.EACH FISH DOES HAVE A DIFFERANT PERSONALITY!!!

The best thing to do with angels of any type is to avoid putting large, meaty corals in with them such as open brain corals or hammers. They tend to nip at clam mantles too. So if you stick to SPS corals and stonier LPS, you should be good to go with most angels.

I don't know about Flame Angel , but I know about Coral Beauty.
This sucker driving me crazy, for the first 6 months she was great, then started nipping at only one of my monties and eventually killed it,then went after my clams. I had to move the clams to the frag tank.
She was good for a few months but now going after my GSP. Now they are not opening as soon as one comes out she pulls it right out. If I ever catch this ............................

I fed everyday. I love them. There coloration is so intense. Everyone who sees the tank are amazed by them.

Well flame angels can be fine for a while and then seemingly overnight can turn into nippers. I especially would avoid meaty LPS corals.

Good advice there! Some corals just seem to beg to be nipped. Most angels *will* eat fleshy LPS polyps. Also, over all coral health can be an issue. They will eat dead, dying, injured, or stressed polyps.

Matthew is 100% right, angels will eat dead or deying corals. My Potters angel never bothered my duncan, but the other day the duncan fell on an acan enchinata and was all slimy. The potters picked him clean.

My potters picks at my GSP sometimes, but other than that is good citizen. Angels can be 50/50 when it comes to a reef. I feed Rod's original formula and flake on a regular basis. Feeding meaty frozen foods may help in keeping them from going "nuts".

Mine likes to nip my clam every once in a while. I don't have any softies or LPS so I can't comment on those, but he's never bothered my sps (as far as I know).

My c. acanthops was a model citizen for nearly 3 years. I moved into a bigger tank with the same corals and he has been destroying just about everything. Not a flame, but a dwarf still. Just thought I'd share my experience.

your lps corals wont like him for a tank mate as they will get nipped at . even if you get away with it for a while they will end up you enemy IMO . i have had to remove a few for other people that loved they way they looked and then one day they hated them because their "diet" changed" and it was corals on the menu

i have had a flame angel for 12 months and it hasnt touched anything, i dont have clams but just about everything else . dont believe the hype ;)

Wow I surprised how many have tried mixing angels with reefs.I'm sure you all read the can nots but still tried it anyways.breaking the law.breaking the law.In the past I read how you can not mix angels.but of course I broke that myth.had 5 together.I think I'm going to get the flame and just watch him. I'll buy a trap just in case.thanks for all the feedback.

have fun with that ,good thing you posted the question as there is so much info that can just be thrown away .good luck with you angel ?

I had one for 2 months an was completely prepared for him to go after my lps zoas. To my dismay he only had a taste for SPS. Mainly miliporas. I had to get him out quick . Traded him for $20 and a couple zoos. Beautiful fish but had to go. Your always taking a chance with angels. Oh and I feed pretty heavy.
