Hello, Im thinking of getting a flame angelfish. Whats everyones take on this fish? Good or bad?

How about food, does it readily accept most foods? Whats its favorite food?

Tia Box :)

Sometimes they are reef safe. Its around a 75% chance that they will leave your corals alone. As far as I know they aren't to get to eat. Ive seen some eat frozen foods before at the lfs.

Have the LFS show you the fish eating. Mine eats pretty much everythig I feed it but I would say prime reef is the current favorite. Right now I feed it Forumal 1, Forumal 2, mysis, and Prime Reef.

mine eats like crazy.I also think he picked on my clam but I had trouble trying to prove it since he would go close to it and it looked like he was picking at its mantle.

i think as long as u see it eat good at LFS, and u get it, and feed it well, same thing as store to start, it will not nip corals. i'm getting 1 in a couple months. i've had a cherub and coral beauty w/ no probs.

I usually make sure the fish eat before I take them, this time I guess I had brain fade.:( You know what they say is the first thing to go is. :)

The hardest part is getting a good healthy one first. I have heard all the horror stories of them eatting coral and or dying after a few months. My flame is almost 3years old and have NEVER bothered any coral or shrimp (I do not own a clam). He eats nori (fights my tangs for it), formula 1 and 2, reef prime, mysis shrimp, krill, and plankton. Someday I might try to get cyclopese (spelling).

All my fish are spoiled (fresh and salt), I do not have any flake or dried food. Well ----I do have some pellets for my corys (FW cats).

I have had one for about 3 weeks now, eats mysis, formula 1, 2, other flakes, and algae sheets every few days. Hasnt touched anything in my tank.

make sure he eats first at lfs. mine didnt eat and died, also, get a younger ones, because they can easily adapt to aquarium food compare to older and bigger, like mine, didnt eat anything i offered just keep grazing food at the rocks...

I don't have any experience with a Flame, but I do with a Coral Beauty. She was a complete bully and kept the clowns out of the anemone, killed two firefish, picked at my brain, Xenia, and SPS. All in all, I won't ever add a dwarf Angel into a reef again. Oh yeah, she was perfect for about six months so the "she's been fine for a week" doesn't mean much in my experience. Good luck, I hope your experience goes better than mine did.

hard fish to beat. great looks, relatively peaceful, stays small, mostly reef safe, inexpensive....
easily a staple in any tank i set up.

Thx guys! Most web sites say Flame angels are "the ideal aquarium fish" Maybee size?
I would agree, mines a great and colorful fish. Now size, try to get it as small as possible, mine is pretty young, about 2in from tip of head to end of tail. Also there is alot of different colorations of flame angels. From being almost completly red (like mine) to almost all orange. And obvisosly inbetween. Make sure when you get it that you totally love the color, dont just buy the first one you can beacause you want one, wait a week or two if you have to. Also you might want to QT, I olny did it about a week an half, but she was totally fine so I put her in the tank. Oh yes one more thing, you will want to feed at a very wide diet to keep the beautiful colors. Good Luck, if you have anymore questions just ask!

well I finally got him. Doing great. Eats mysid shrimp and flake food. Really attached to the rocks though. The color of this fish is amazing! :)
