Flame Angelfish

72 days...?!? That's roughly the first week of March...! :hmm2:

Okay, I guess the Flame Angelfish will be quarantined per your recommendations...thanks...!

72 days. I reference Steve (Snorvich) for this, and trust his expertise.

Can you provide me with a link for Steve Snorvich's quarantine philosophy...? Just want to learn a little about it, and a Google search did not provide me with much substance. Thanks...!

I don't know that he specifically has it anywhere, but I follow the Compatibility thread that he moderates, along with seeing other posts he has made in reference to this topic.
If I understand correctly, this is the amount of time required for potential problems to show themselves.
Note that if you put another fish in the QT, you have to reset the clock, since the new fish could transfer something to the one already in there.

Also, yes, March is a long way off, but given the multiple tries you've made, doing this time with some extra patience is probably wise. You sound like you're willing to do whatever it takes to keep this one alive, which is admirable.

Yes, am willing...! Had an ammonia reading of 0.05 today. Did a 25% water change. Don't know if it was because of all the food I was trying to get him to eat. I'm still learning, but it looks like a nano tank is less forgiving with parameter swings...!

And he ate some mysis today...!

Well done with the QT, Gungee. I would hesitate to suggest anything contrary to what Steve has suggested but most articles I've read say 4 to 6 weeks of QT: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/blog/quarantining-marine-fish-made-simple

Nonetheless, longer is safer...

So this article talks about medicating, even if the fish is not sick I presume. So I should be medicating the quarantine tank...? I thought quarantine was mainly for observing, and medicating only if necessary...?

I have to admit that I do not medicate until I see a need to do so. A six week quarantine gives me the confidence to introduce the fish or coral into my DT.

Some people add PraziPro in case of parasites, and a few will use low level copper and/or a low level salinity, like 1.021. Personally, I don't do either until I see a reason, to avoid any potential stress. People more experienced than me understand it better to do it correctly, so I still avoid both (though I have PraziPro and copper in my shelf in case...). This is because, by the time I might need them, I'd have to rush to find them. Be prepared, is a solid motto.
My reason to avoid copper specifically is that once you use it, NOTHING from the QT can go back in the DT, and I keep Marine Pure balls cycling in my sump so they are ready to use in the QT. If I had to use copper, those balls would not be able to replaced in my sump.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Personally I have had great luck with flame angels, all three of them from past and present ate immediately and lived happily in my tanks. I do make sure they eat like pigs, not just nipping while picking them out at the local store. Also, lots of rock work and hiding place helps. They love darting in and out feeling safe.
