flame angels - unrequited love

I really want a flame angel and have for a long time. I also love my LPS that are doing great in my tank. However, I am always almost seduced by the beauty and charm of those little red guys. How have they worked out for you reefers? Do they harm your corals? I know it depends on the fish, but what's the general experience?

I've never personally had one, but a buddy of mine recently bought one for his SPS tank... things didn't go so well. I think it all depends on the personality of the individual fish.

i am in the sqame boat as you so to speak. since the first time i have ever saw a saltwater setup i have wanted one . now that i have a reef tank i am a little hesitant. keep me posted if you decide to get one . let me know how it goes .

I have had two in different reef tanks with SPS, LPS, and softies no problems with any of them, from what i have seen and heard is that it does depend on the fish but also that they do not decimate a coral but take more occasional nips at different things.

There's about a 50/50 chance that it will nip at corals. The chance is lowered if you keep it well-fed. But it seems once they get a taste and start nipping, this behavior accelerates and doesn't go away. I've known people that have had one in their tank for years with no trouble, and one day they turn into coral eating machines. They can be unpredictable.

I had one in my tank for about a year it did great now it's in my little brothers tank and it's still leaving everything alone.

I had no problems keeping flame angels with LPS and softies. Never tried with SPS. BTW I had a bad experience with a cherub angel (C. argi) and giant clams.
