Flame & coral beauty Angel

Hi everyone... So here is another typical flame angel & coral beauty angel in the same tank scenario!!

Well, I finally upgraded to a 180 tank and just about the same time got a flame angel from a friends tank shutdown... Seen this guy for quite sometime & really gets along with all the other fishes...

And I always wanted a coral beauty & decided to take the plunge of adding both angels together in the 180...(read a lot about the stories out there)... Quarantined both separately for a week+ and added them at the same time.. Lights out...different ends of tank.

Well, the flame was a little bigger than the coral & they both were getting along fine for a day.. Since then the flame just randomly chases the crap out of the CB!! Does not hurt him but its almost like cat & mice... Gives him a break to swim & let's him eat too.. But it's no good..

I had them separated with nets for few days... CB had 75% of tank space & he established good.. Flame stopped trying to get back at the CB through the nets after the 1st day... And after I removed the nets.. They were ok for a day again.. CB stood its ground unlike last time.. But soon changed back!!

Finally losing my mind over the chases, I broke the rock work after 2 hrs of fighting to catch the flame..! He is now in the sump...

1. Think after a few wks it might be ok to reintroduce the flame?
2. Get a smaller flame angel?
3. Or was thinking if I add a3rd angel, it might be ok (like 2means they pick at the other one..now the 3rd will change the picture... Similar to odd number of yellow tangs in a tank)

Let me know what you guys think... And if anyone has 3 dwarf angels in a 6 foot tank...

flames are more much aggressive than cb...
providing the sump is big enough leave the flame in there a few weeks and leave the cb in the dt...when you release the flame leave the lights off for 2-3 days and continue to feed as many small meals as you can. per day..

yeah, the sump is big enough for a few weeks... Plan to have him for 2 weeks & then introduce back in the DT. have some rock work changed too.. so that should be all new place for him...

whats the thought about adding a 3rd one to keep the 3 in a loop... instead of one on one fight...? any experts out there wanna share your thoughts?

I added a flame to my 75g cube that had a well established CB (only angel for 5 years). The CB chased the flame at every opportunity but because there is lots of hiding places I decided to let them sort it out. Frequent feedings distracted the CB and reducing the lighting schedule did help relax things. After about a week the chasing virtually stopped but the flame avoided her tankmate completely, hiding whenever they crossed paths.

They've grown accustomed to each other now and swim together (it will be a year together this month). I think the key was lots of hiding places and plenty of food to reduce competition.

I keep many centropyge in my system but do not have a Flame due to their aggression...I would be cautious..

I have plenty of hiding spots too... spanned across the 6ft tank.. Initially the flame & CB had their own hiding spots... but slowly the flame took over more spots in the tank & wanted the CB's spot too..(greedy guy!) (the CB had a good spot in a separate island in one end of the tank)....

well, I wish I had either bigger CB than the flame or added the flame after the CB..!!! (though the readings suggested that adding same time increased chances)

Lets see how things turn out after the CB establishes.. (he quickly noticed that the flame is gone & is all over the 6ft!!)

well, thought I'll update the thread with the current scenario & hopefully it helps others down the road..

I did catch the flame (finally..!!) & had him in the sump for 2 weeks... while the CB had good time establishing in the tank... and when I finally decided to try them together for the last time together... I turned lights off...& introduced the flame back again.. & left the lights off for 2 days... fed the tank little bit during that time..
3rd day.. lights back on normal schedule... CB was chasing the flame a little bit (not really aggressive) but after a couple of hrs... they both settled in pretty good.... like started grazing together...sharing the same cave... damm!!

its been nearly 2 months.. & they are still good buddys... what can I say...! its as if the flame angel never had a friend before...! whatever...makes my day :)

I've mexed them before... they always chase at first, it looks like a starwars movie, cuz all you see is the colors of whatever dwarf angels they were zipping by, but they always settled after a day or two. I always made sure to keep a watch that it didnt get to bad or that one wasnt just letting itself be abused. Its wonderful once they get settled. Glad to hear they're finally setteld. Feel free to share pics! :D
