thanks all - octo, I love the Tamrom. Been using it for a couple of years now. I've never used the Sigma but from what I read I think the Tamron is slightly ahead in sharpness. The Canon, Sigma and Tamron are all VERY close optically though. I think it would take an experienced eye examining a full res shot to determine any noticeable difference really. The real difference is in build quality but again the differences have advantages and disadvantages.
