Flame Hawkfish w/Gramma & Fairy Wrasse?

Anyone have experience with these fish together. I already have a Solar Fairy Wrasse and Royal Gramma established in my tank. I read that Flame Hawkfish could make my Gramma go into hiding and I don't want that to happen. I have heard the Flame Hawkfish has a great personality, but I do not want to upset the balance of my tank. All my current residents are very peaceful.

Thanks,

Robka

I am currently keeping a mystery wrasse, a pair of flame wrasses, royal gramma and a flame hawkfish all together. They all live happily together. I never seen any aggression between them.

Thanks for the info:) The Flame Hawk looks like such a cool fish.

If you don't mind, in what order did you add those fish?

Thanks,

The royal gramma was first. The mystery wrasse and the hawkfish were added next. And the flame wrasses were added last.

They are all great fish, IMHO. The flame hawk has tons of personality and is my favorite.

Lol, I have a large gramma and added a pair of flame hawks (1.5-2.5 inch) and the gramma chased them around for the first week. Seem to get along fine now.

I have a gramma, solarensis, and flame hawk. The solarensis was first, then the gramma, and flame hawk was last, with other fish added between those fish. I dont remember any aggression among that group, and none of them are in the top 3 of the pecking order in the tank (obnoxious centropyge #1, tomini tang #2, lyretail anthias male #3). The only fish Ive got that goes out of its way to chase others is the centropyge, and the male anthias will dart at the female occasionally.

Has anyone had problems with the Flame Hawk eating snails (if so how large were the snails)? I am aware that they can eat small crabs & shrimps, but some fish profiles say they will eat snails as well?

Thanks for your help,

Robka

My larger hawk eats snails, haven't seen the smaller one doing it but he may as well, snails were normal astreas/nass. He sucks them right out of the shells. Caught him doing it this afternoon actually.

Is your larger hawk a Flame Hawk and if so how big is he?

Thanks,

Robka

Yeah, flame, about 3 inches. That said he doesn't seem to bother (so far) the ones on the glass, but if they fall he or my trigger gets them, nassarius he actually goes looking through the sand for.

So do you think the Flame Hawk will completely wipe out my cleaning crew? They seem to have such great personalities, but I don't want to upset the biological balance of the tank.

Thanks,

Robka

I have 3 royal grammas, all added at same time, along with moderate sized flame hawk, very large lineatus wrasse and very large melanurus wrasse. Order was Lineatus, Melanurus, RGs, Flame. None of the fish pick on each other, except for some showing of mouth size between the grammas - all of which are the same size. I've never seen the hawk pick on any inverts or fish, and I have 2 large cleaner shrimp, 2 large fire shrimp, several pistol shrimp with gobies, and pom-pom crabs, porcelain crabs, hermits, 50-60 nassarius, snails, conchs, cukes, etc. Other fish include tangs, angels, pipes, anthias, mandarins, small yellow clown gobies x3, neon goby, maroon clown pair.

Glad to hear that the Flame Hawks are not all clean up crew killers. I really want to add this fish to my tank:)

Probably not but they won't pass up an easy meal, staying with snails that can flip themselves over or hide in the sand would increase your odds. I had a powerhead fall and that's when mine seemed to notice snacks were there. He doesn't go digging through the deeper parts of sand, just where it was very shallow and you can see the snails. He doesn't bother those little starfish or snails on the glass or back, perches on them even. Large shrimp, bigger than the hawk should be safe but adding a small one after they are in the tank would likely be a snack.

My flamehawk has not bothered a large red fire shrimp that was in the tank before him, but later additions of peppermint shrimp have all vanished quickly, though he was not seen eating them.
