Flame scallop Q's

I want to add a flame scallop to my aquarium so I've been doing a little research and there's a few things Im not quite sure about,

Mainly Im not sure about feeding as what Ive read has been pretty vague. How often, what (marine snow?) and how much at each time?

Rob is really too kind, I have never met anyone who kept a flame scalop over six months, he cites some up to a year but I suspect they were people supplementing with rotifers and other phyto planktons. I generally **** off store owners selling them by telling that they should read up on them and then do the obvious right thing by not selling them.

No to scallops in general, or is there something about flame scallops,

thanks for your info, Im not interested now that I hear that it wont live in my system very well.

I probably should have read that article first before my last post, but Im still curious, are there any scallops (or file clams) that can be kept in captivity with success, or not with any more success than with flame scallops?

I have had my flame scallop for over a month now and he is thriving and doing extremly well. I feed it daily with a kent sea squirt. It gets feed a varity of foods including, marine snow, dt's phyto, coral frenzy and cyclop eze.

How can you tell if a clam is thriving and doing extremely well?

He is always open and feeding. And he has signs of new growth on his front mantel and tentacles ( if thats what you call them).

Has the shell itself increased in size - noticeably? Being open and feeding simply means it's alive, extending its sensory tentacles is normal too. These don't, in themselves, indicate "thriving". Rapid shell growth does - except in the event that it's full grow already, which means it'll die soon as they have very short lifespans even in the wild.

Had a flame scalllop a couple of weeks. Then it dissolved into an icky, gooey mess.
