Flame Scallop

I have always wanted a flame scallop ever since I was introduced to the hobby, but I found out that they don't survive long in captivity because of their need for a very certain food. I think its marine snow or something similar to that.

Anyway, I bought liquid marine snow from marine depot and was thinking that this could be used to feed a flame scallop. Could it? If I could feed it this, would I spot feed and how often?

The would require daily feedings of phytoplankton or zooplankton.

IMO the cost involved in keeping this species alive at best several weeks to a month or two is not really worth it given the poor survival rate of this species.

A specimen best left to thrive in the wild where it will fare better.

OK thats what I thought. I don't think I could do daily feedings. I'll just leave them.

Really? We're suppose to feed them? I have had mine for awhile now and i don't feed it just let them filter and if it reaches them some rods food (weekly-bi-weekly feeding).

They seem hit or miss but usually die..... To bad; they are pretty cool!

even the electric flame scallops have poor survivability? another thing best left at the lfs

Yep pretty much, they are pretty cool to see at nite with th light flashing in their mantle, but not worth it in terms of the survival rate.

Are you serious and how do know if they are dead or thriving because mine looks healthy and filters 24/7 (stick that film out)? You think i can still keep him, great fella given to me by a friend?

It's awesome that some people are having success. They are some of the coolest creatures I have ever seen. I love watching the little electric pulse.
