flameback angelfish

I was in my LFS wasting time for a few minutes and they had a flameback angel.

It was labeled as African, C. acanthops, but it looked more yellow in the body like C. aurantonotus. I don't think the caudal tail was transparent but I did not look too closely to be honest.


Regardless anyone keep either species?

I am looking for a dwarf angel in my 37 fowlr and have always been interested in these guys.

It was around 2 inches for $60 so with store credit it would be $16.

I have a C. acanthops in my current 60 gallon Reef. Feisty little guys!
In a 37 gallon? He is going to be MR. ANGEL El Jeffe' ! ROFLOL
Be careful, they can be aggressive. Mine shares a home with my C. bicolor and a Maroon clown, amongst other rowdy folks.
Generally, a bit safer for a Reef than most Cntropyge. But your mileage will vary. Each fish is its own creature.
They are beautiful, active, FAST.
I love mine, if you cannot tell by that unbiased account.

This would be my main fish with a few others such as blennies, gobies and maybe one other active fish.

I have a feeling I will grab it since I have wanted one for a long time now.

I really miss mine, was a great fish. As far as dwarfs go, mine was really mellow and left most of my corals alone. If I ever find the space (( currently have 5 dwarfs )) I would get one again.

Are they the general meaty foods type or are they food specific?

Mine ate whatever I put in the tank; Rod's food (( 3 different types )) LifeLine's Herbivore mix, Spectrum pellets, Prime Reef and Angel formula. Plus, it loved to pick at the rocks all day long, so mature live rock is great.

Mine was pretty mellow. Lost him in an ac outage last summer. Sure do miss him as he was probably one of the coolest fish I have ever had.
