Flaming Prawn Gobies w/ Bullseye Pistol Shrimp?

Myka

Reefing since '93
I have a 20g Zoa tank that I would like to put 5-6 Flaming Prawn Gobies aka Griessinger Gobies into (Discordipinna griessingeri). Currently there are no fish in the tank. With these fish being fairly new to the market, and never having kept them myself, I understand these Gobies do well in harems. Is this correct?

I am tossing around the idea of adding a Pistol shrimp to the mix too. Will the Gobies share the Pistol? What sort of possible negative outcome could there be from this mix? The only two pistols that I enjoy the look of would be the Bullseye Pistol (Alpheus soror) or the Candy Stripe Pistol (Alpheus randalli). I understand the Candy Stripe would be surer choice for pairing, but what are my chances with the Bullseye? I really think the Bullseye would compliment the Flaming Prawn Gobies' colors.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks for any help!

From what I've heard they usually do best in a pair or as individuals because like yahia gobies, the males will fight. I also have heard that they will not pair with shrimp as they are not shrimp gobies.

Hmmm, well there isn't much information on these little gobies online, and I don't usually trust online dealers' information, but I found this: "If present, this fish will gladly share its sand bed burrow with a Pistol Shrimp of the Alpheus genus. It will also build burrows in the absence of a Pistol Shrimp; helping to keep the sand bed well stirred. Because of its penchant for burrowing, the substrate provided should be fine sand...Great singly or in groups, this reef-safe fish readily adapts to a diet of frozen or live shrimp such as Mysis Shrimp or Brine Shrimp."

Well I know of some people who have these guys and they do not put pistols with them because they do not pair up. You don't have to take my word for it but that is what I know.

Well, after some more hunting around I finally found that Bob Fenner states the Flaming Prawn Gobies do not form a symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp. That's all the proof I need, so you're right Bongo! Thank you for your help.

Now I need to figure out something else to put in my Zoa nano. Oi!
