Flash/Speedlight for Canon Rebel XT DSLR

Hi there. Can anybody recommend a good Canon brand flash/speedlight for the Canon Rebel XT DSLR? I consider myself an amateur so please keep that in mind if making recommendations. Thanks in advance!

The 430EX is a good entry level strobe. I'm reasonably happy with mine. Be careful of of the off brand stuff as it just doesn't sync well with the camera. That can make them frustratingly difficult to use, especially if you're just beginning.

For macro work I use a ring flash (MT-14EX) and fire the 430EX as a slave.

Thanks Doug. I found that out the hard way and I will be going to Ritz Camera after work today to return the Sakar brand flash that the salesperson at Ritz assured me would work with a Canon off camera shoe

I'm not sure what a ring flash is but I'm not surprised seeing as I have a heck of a lot yet to learn!

i have a couple of 580EX that can work as slave flashes with the 400D and STE2 but as Beerguy just said, the 430EX will do just fine for tank shots... and more !
