flasher/fairy wrasse ID?

I bought this little 'guy' as a blue flasher wrasse (Paracheilinus cyaneus), but 'his' tail is the wrong shape (rounded, not lunate) and he doesn't have the pattern of lines that seems to be typical for P. cyaneus and similar flashers. When he lets me look closely (he did not appreciate my attempt at flash photography earlier today), I think i can see the dot and dash patters of P. lineopunctatus.

The attached picture isn't real good, but you can see a purple sheen in his tail and anal fins, and the slight mottling in his body color. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't show the dots and dashes I think I see.

So, what do you all think?

Yup, that would be my guess. Great fish. When they flash, it's AMAZING!

+2 on that..it looks like a female changing into a male..hard to tell from the pic but the are great looking fish when flashing and all the time for that matter but it is my favorite flasher..the fish in my avatar is that fish flashing and this is one more

Thanks guys. Even now as it settles in, the colors are lovely. I'm having trouble getting the exposure right in the QT he's in right now.

I've been wondering if it might be in the middle of transformation. It was the only wrasse in a tank at an LFS for a couple of months before I bought him.

have you seen it with its fins spread out and is so does it have any filaments on its dorsal fin

It really hasn't poped it up much. The little raise he has given it makes me think no filaments. Female?

Well, I found a male on Diver's Den, and I'm trying to introduce the two. I'd intended to keep the male in a breeder box to let them get used to each other a bit, but missed the box when I transferred the male in from acclimation. This was just yesterday (saturday, 1/16)

Problem is the female is the bigger of the two. there's quite a bit of chasing going on, with the male being the submissive. Should I give these guys some time, or should I abort and look for smaller females to form a harem with one or the other?
