Old dog and new tricks
I'm wanting to get a McCosker's or a Carpenter's because of their small size and vibrant colors. My question is will a male keep rich color or do I need a female for it to show off to.

i have one male mckoskers in my tank and there is no loss in color as far as i see. he is very active and fun to watch i would get a mckoskers

no not at all. they are complete diffrent genus and species. Flame fairy wrasse , Cirrhilabrus jordani is part of the Cirrhilbruas spp. and flasher wrasses are apart of the Paracheilinus spp. or better known as flasher wrasses. A flame wrasse gets rather large for a fairy wrasse and should use caution esp. when adding to a 56 gal. A harem of flasher wrasse would be much more fitting for your application.

LOL i must have totally read the title of the post wrong IM sorry guys its been a long weekend.

-To answer your question...You dont need a female, but He wont display or "flash" nightly without one. The only other way to achieve a flash without a female on a consistent basis is to keep multiple males of different species, but this does not always work and the best way to go about it is to keep a pair or trio.
