Flashing pipefish

I have a dragon face pipefish that is flashing every now and then but I looked at him and he looks very healthy and is pretty fat. Why is he doing this?

I had bluestripe pipefish with ich and never saw them flashing.
It must be itching badly for a pipefish to scratch itself.
While often a sign of ich or other ectoparasites, it can also be itching from coral stings or pods hitching a ride (safest place for them is the back of the pipefish :D)

well fish can "look" healthy and still have something . Would recommend qt any pipefish you get or learn the hard way. They carry parasites and cant be seen on the exterior .

Looking healthy doesn't mean its disease/parasite free. I'd recommend quarantining all live stock before placing them in the display tank.

IMO, all fish have parasites. All that quarantine does is show that at the time, the fish is healthy enough that the parasites haven't been able to take over and become problematic.
The advantage in quarantine is that if the fish is NOT healthy enough to overcome problems on it's own, it is already in the Q tank and can be treated without the added stress of catching it again.
