Flatworm Exit Treatment Help

I found some red flat worms in my tank about a month ago. I purchased Flatworm Exit but wanted to reduce the number of bugs in the tank before treating. After A LOT of phone calls I was able to get 3 blue velvet nudibranches which pretty much took care of the problem. Those guys are crazy cool.

So now it's time to treat the tank. Has anyone used this product successfully? I have never run carbon, and have no idea how to do it. It says 1 pound for every 50gl, so I'll need to run 2 pounds of carbon. Do I need to get a canister filter? Can I use a phosban reactor? What is a good brand of carbon?

any and all suggestions are welcome.

thank you in advance.

I have used the flatworm exit before, its pretty straight forward. I found that uping the dose is a little better. I just put the carbon in a mesh bag and put that in my filter sock so the water just flows through it. Dont be suprised if you see a lot of dead mini stars floating around.

I ran it in my 90 a while back.

Siphon out as many as you can ahead of time... dose the tank... then I think I waited 30 minutes or so before I started running the carbon. I think the instructions say to run it as soon as you see them dying. I also siphoned some out while they were dying.

As far as the carbon specifics:

I used ESV Carbon, (although it doesn't really matter which brand you use), and ran it in a phosban reactor... packed the reactor full.

Rinsed the carbon for a minute or so with cold tap water, then loaded the reactor. Ran about 3 gallons of RO/DI water through the reactor before hooking it up to the system.

I had it hooked up to the system, but the reactor's feed pump was unplugged prior to dosing the tank. That way I just had to plug in the pump once the flatworms started dying.

Then I changed the carbon 24hrs later.

Tswifty8 - so you just put the carbon right in the reactor? It doesn't go through the mesh?

Also, what did you do about the sump? Did you have the the reactor in the dt or in the sump? Did you increase flow rate through the sump during the die off stage?

thanks!
