Flea Bombing

Anyone ever flea bomb their house? I have sprays that I was going to use however I'm thinking about buying bombs instead. I'm wondering if there's any experienced opinions out there.

I havent had to, but if I was going to, i would shut down my sump (if you have one), put my heater in the display tank (if its not already) run any powerheads that you have. turn off lighting. cover the entire tank in a platic sheet.

Them bomb the house. Wait the proper amount of time for the poison to take effect. after which, open all windows and let air circulate for 24 hours. then open the tank back up and start back up as normal.

I called an exterminator that helped me with my carpenter ant problem a few years ago and they recommended sticking with the sprays that I've got and not going the bomb route.

I'll shut my sump off and cover both the tank and the sump separately. It's not too hot or cold tonight so I shouldn't need my chiller or heater running. By using the spray I'll keep most of the product low in the house. I only need to keep the animals out for 30 minutes but I might wait until tomorrow to open it back up.

Prior to running a sump I bombed my house. Covered the top of the tank securely with a blanket. A sump will make things harder though.

I asked my other whose a vet; I couldn't remember her advice. She said why make your whole house toxic and reccommends just treat the animals topically untill the life cycle has run its course.

In fact she just gave the kids an advertising stuffed kitty for Beyer Serestor that she thought could be a good solution for you; it's an 8 month flea and tick collar that you can put on dogs and cats and pretty much forget about.

The Seresto collars seem to be working pretty well. I've got one on my cat now. The problem is she would go into the basement, pick up fleas, come upstairs and the fleas would jump off her (because of the collar). Even though she's had a Seresto collar on for two weeks I pulled 19 fleas off her two nights ago. This was a day after I gave her a 20 minute bath with dish soap. I put them both on a 7 day run of Capstar which will kill everything on them. The house was awful though and all the medications and insecticides on my pets weren't making a difference.

I agree with making the house toxic. I didn't want to but although my Dyson was picking up so much every day it just couldn't keep up.

Glad I've made it so that none of you ever want to come over to my house.

Our cats had a few fleas last year. We used diatomus eath (foodgrade). It took care of the problem. Be careful not to breathe it (lung irritant).

I sprinkled it on the carpet, furniture they hang out on, cat tree, and thier beds. Left it sit for 15 minutes then vacuumed it up. I left a small amount in the places where they hang out the most. Also rubbed a little on their stomachs. No fleas since.

Its takes a bit of vacuuming to get it up, but I would use it again.

Bought it off Amazon.

A lot of us have been there. When I was growing up, picking fleas off the dogs (and yourself) was a normal, everyday thing. Having no cable at the time, it was our entertainment!

I've gotten through a horrible flea infestation without bombing (4 dogs). We used 3 months straight of flea medication topically to ensure they wouldn't return. I used the spray on all the furniture and dog bedding. Washed every fabric in the house. On carpets I used the powder and vacuumed everything, especially under furniture.

Diatomaceous earth is also a great non chemical solution. The powder dries out the flea to death. You can buy it at tractor supply for cattle. Its also works orally as a dewormer.

Im against giving dogs flea medications...but, it became urgent when we found fleas in bed....lol

I sprayed the entire house, up and down, got sick off the fumes so I left the house to go to the bar but only drank water (strange) and am now enjoying a very clean house. This has gotten me in the Throw It Out mood which is very uncharacteristic of me but it's starting to happen more and more the older I get.
