Flesh peeling off Staghorn

So question with a little background.

Came home today and one of my new SPS frags(been in the system a week) had the flesh peeling off the skeleton.

I had to buy a new heater this week, and i guess i did not have it dialed in correctly because the tank temp did peak at 86 degrees.

This was the first temp spike i have ever had in this system,My temp normaly runs 78-80 and all other corals are fine, and water params are normal, and the coral in question was looking healthy prior to today.

I'm assuming it was likely the temp spike that effected this coral?

I dont have a picture, but the flesh basically peeled off the entire front side of the frag facing the front of the tank, and the flesh facing the back of the tank is all still attached/

Has any one else had a similar situation?

Is this frag toast, of is there a shot is could come back?

Sorry but it's toast. Yes this has happened. A serious spike fortunately does not usually wipe out everything, but there are usually a couple that can't take it and RTN.

Thanks Rovster. So even though half is still covered in flesh, its likely to just continue shedding?

The other SPS, softies, and LPS corals looked a little ****ed off, but already seem to be recovering as the temp drops back into the high end of acceptable temp ranges...

Sucks...Was a real nice turquoise color with blue tips.

Yeah unless you can snip off an unaffected piece recovery is very unlikely. If it's truly peeling it will probably be white by tomorrow. Sucks. Seen it many times.

Sucks. Gonna have to get more sophisticated with the heater it seems.

On the bright side i found some nice scores on the $12 frag rack today.

Temp is down to 81. All other corals are perking up.

I don't have a whole lot of SPS since this tank is right at about 1 year old. I have been adding to the collection recently though. Luckily nothing else seems effected.

I took the frag out and fragged it down to what little tissue was left, put super glue on the edges of the tissue, and attached it to some rubble rock. Dont have a whole lot of hope, but sounds like its my best shot at saving something off the frag.
