Flesh under chalice?

Is this normal? I have a spongy feeling flesh under my Hollywood stunner. Nothing like this under my red chalice.

Might be a sponge growing under it. I have some growing under places like this.

I'm assuming it's not an issue, right ? Not stealing nutrients or anything?

Much the opposite. There is belief that sponges play an important role in breaking down organics to provide a food source for corals. Sponges are almost always a good thing.
