floating clown in the dark

Yesterday I added a 'misbar' percula clown to my aquarium. Last night after I shut off the lighting he went to the surface and floated on his side. As far as he know he did this all night as he was still on his side in the AM. After I applied full lighting he recovered and acted normal (feeding, swimming upright). My water paramaters are fine, and i can see no signs of ich or any other disease? Is this an indication of somethign serious or is he just living up to his name? Any help would be much appreciated.

Normal behavior. Clowns will spend a lot of time at the surface swimming on their side if new to a tank and not hosting.

Yep, completely normal. Lot of clowns once they "sleep" you'd almost think they were dead just bobbing around the tank usually on their sides. Once the sun comes back up they snap out of it and go back to wiggling and swimming and biting you when you stick your hand in the tank.

I've had mine over a year, and she does this every night when the lights go out. Completely normal.

once they get an anemone and host it, they will stop doing this. It may also be an age thing, sort of like a baby, that needs to reach a certain weight before sleeping through the night.

Not at all unusualy to see a clown laying on its side sleeping on a rock. Who would have thunk it?
