Floor Help? Please

what kinda floor?
Is it a floating wood floor?

What do you mean, or how can I tell what kind of floor it is?

Do not by any means fill that sucker! It shouldn't move one mm when you walk by it.

You could buy a thick pink foam pad from home depot and then cut a plywood board to match .5" or thicker and ducttape it to the top of the foam.. This way depending on the tank, it can rest on the wood but still distribute the weight due to the foam underneath.

A floating wood floor is like a pergo floor, layed on a foam pad, meant to move w/ expansion/contraction of house/framing.
Many times there are voids that flex.
We are talking about a 100g tank here, MANY have these or even bigger on 2nd story homes, and these would be on joists, w/ no posts directly beneath.
BTW, I am a lic contractor for those who don't notice in my sig.
Like I said, unless there is something unusual going on, I absolutely can't see a problem here.
But pics would make me feel more secure as a pro to cover my butt!
You could have something strange, I just can't imagine or think of anything that would keep me from leveling stand and calling it good.

Do you just want pictures of the floor under the tank, from the crawl space?

Gimme what ya got.
I'm being overly cautious.
There are those rare occasions when someone leaves out critical info, but this sounds like no brainer to me.

Bottom line...if your joist are deflecting that much, they are not adequate to support your tank....your floor definately needs to be reinforced. Residential floors are usually only designed for 40psf!!! Take it from me I'm a licensed structural engineer!!!

I didn't read anything about joist deflection, just basically furniture(tank/stand) vibrating/ w/ floor bounce as he's walking.
I've lived in apts where a big dude upstairs made my furniture/ walls shake just when he walked, normal.
I mean unless I'm just not seeing/reading something here, you guys are freaking over nothing IMO.
But like I said, send some pics.
Lots of shots in the dark going on here.

The black cable in the pictures is basically directly behind the tanks and stand almost inthe middle of them. Like I said I don't think tha the floor wont hold it, I just want to minimize the vibrations and bounce that ends up in the tank.

And I assume tank runs along same direction as block wall?
And spanning at least 2-3 joists?
I see absolutely no problem.
I'm on a slab, and I can walk hard enough to make an empty tank vibrate, and if stand isn't level, it will emphasize that vibration.

It runs parallel to the joists in front of the black cable in th 3rd picture. So it will hold, but how can I reduce the vibrations?

Framing looks solid, and you're close to block wall/bottom plate/foundation, so should be plenty strong.
Don't know why vibration, unless like I said stand isn't level, and rocking/tipping.
Justin, you're my neighbor, on sd?

That all looks solid to me. I am not sure I understand the "vibrations" or what is causing that. Did you build the stand, or is it a manufactured stand? We are doing a 300 gallon on a conventional foundation and will add more support with lolly columns. What is it that is "moving" or "vibrating"? MAybe I missed that.

I was just reading and was wondering is tank moving forward and backward?

If its shifting it seems to be front to back, but its more just virations and a tiny bit of rocking front to back.

I had a furniture builder make the stand. It is very solid. I had it in my garage on concrete and it didn't move around at all. I am seeing front to back wripples when I walk around the tank. Maybe this is normal and I am crazy! I have always been on a slab and this is the first time I have put up a "big" tank over a crawl space.

Before sistering the joists, I had a CPU desk in the same room, anything on the top self would fall over if I bounced up and down any where near the desk. Now it doesn't but I can still see the movement in the water.

I think you're being sensitive to normal amount of flex or transfer of vibration in raised floor.
And it could be magnified by an uneven/unlevel rocking stand.
I still don't know what your floor surface is, but very common most aren't perfect, and reason we use shims.
I bet if you set a glass of water even on garage slab and walk heavy you'll see water ripples/sign of vibration, it's just more so on raised floor.
But framing/placement looks fine IMO.
But if it keeps you from sleeping at night, throw a couple concrete piers w/ posts under.
But I'm sure that even then there will be some vibration.
I would be more concerned about leveling the cabinet, and if tank is glass and trimless 1/2" foam underneath.

I think I am goingt o add 2 posts under the middle of the stand to see if that reduces the vibrations a bit. Thanks for all of the advise.

Ok. Thanks for all that helped with my problem. I added a 4x4 and 2 jacks under the middle of the stand. Seemed to reduce the vibrations but like davocean said they didn't completly go away.
